Karly and Adam
How We Met
Adam and I met on a popular dating app. in the Spring of 2014. Neither of us took the app. very seriously until we came across each other’s profiles. We immediately started conversation and learned that we had so many things in common, including both of our careers being in the legal profession. I was blown away by how respectful he was. He even asked permission to send me a friend request on Facebook! That’s when I knew he was different. We casually met in person a few days later at a local bar, and then he asked me on our first date a few days after that.
It was the best date I have ever been on, and I called my mom the next morning and told her that I think I just met my future husband. I had never been so sure about anything in my life. Adam and I continued to see each other for about a month until I asked him “what are we?” That is when he shared with me that he took a job in a different city, and he didn’t think that committing to a relationship was in the cards for him at that time. I was admittedly crushed, but I wasn’t angry.
I remember thinking that I was happy just to have known someone like him, even if it was for a short while. We didn’t talk for three days after that until I got a message from him saying that he thought we should give us a shot. Adam moved to Buffalo, New York a month later. I drove to see him every other weekend. After a couple months of back and forth, Adam officially asked me to be his girlfriend. It is crazy to think that you can go your whole life without knowing that one person, but when you finally do meet them, you can’t imagine your life without them.
How He Asked
Our proposal did not go as planned, but turned out to be perfect. For my birthday in September 2016, Adam surprised me with tickets to a beer and wine festival in a popular ski town outside of Buffalo, New York for the weekend of November 12, 2016. Adam told me that he booked us a hotel at Holiday Valley Ski Resort and that the festival took place at the side of the mountain in one of the lodges. The weekend finally came and I was so excited.
In the Fall, Holiday Valley allows people to ride up the ski lift to the top of the mountain. When we arrived at the hotel, Adam asked where we needed to go to get on the lift, but we were told that they stopped running the lift until Winter started. I could tell Adam was extremely disappointed, as was I. That is when I started to get a little suspicious. We got to our room and I walked over to the window and realized we had beautiful view of the mountain. I turned around to see Adam on one knee.
Holding my dream ring, and asking me to marry him. It was the best day of my life. I immediately called my parents and realized that they were actually in the same town (completely coincidentally, they had no idea that the proposal was happening this weekend) and we met up so I could show them my ring and celebrate! We are getting married on November 4, 2017 and we couldn’t be happier.
