Karlin and Frankie
How We Met
I was supposed to meet up with this guy I was interested in but he ditched me last minute so my friend Keith said he was at the beach and to come join him and his friends. When I got there I introduced myself to his friends and put on my headphones and began lightly singing some country music. Keith knew I spend some of my childhood in Arkansas and his roommate Frankie(my now fiance) grew up in South Carolina so he and I began chatting about what we miss about the south. It got chilly and everyone began to leave and Frankie asked if I would like to still hang out with him. I told him about this place on the Santa Monica pier my dad used to take me and my brother to play air hockey so I put on my Kobe jersey and we went there.
Til this day we argue who won that game of air hockey! After air hockey we went to dinner and then watched a movie and it just felt so natural. The next day he texted me wanting to see me again, I said yes and then got scared. It would take him a few more times of getting ditched before I actually said yes and of course it was because the Lakers were playing a great game and I needed someone to watch it with. We fell in love but then his work asked him to move to New York. We tried long distance but it was so tough on us. Trying to make the relationship work I moved to New York but that put even more pressure on our relationship.
Just 2 months into moving to New York, Frankie decided he needed some space. My best friend booked a ticket to New York to help me adjust to the east coast and single life. I began dating in New York and finding myself in the city. I got an amazing job and would travel and just do me but during that time Frankie would always be a friend of mine from then on and as days grew longer he realized how much he missed me and wanted to be with me. A few months later we gave things another try and knew we were both in it for the long haul.
How He Asked
We booked a trip to Costa Rica with a bunch of friends and had the time of our lives. From white water river rafting to zip lining through the jungle and horse back riding on the beach. It was a time to remember. On the last night of our trip we all decided to dress up and get a bottle of champagne and go to our local beach for the sunset before a nice dinner.
As Frankie and I posed for a photo he began whispering in my ear “Isn’t this beautiful, wouldn’t you like this forever, will you be my forever” as I looked at him I couldn’t help but begin to cry. He got down on one knew and asked me to marry him.
During this time all of our friends were just taking a bunch of photos of the whole proposal. We are getting married in June at Boone Hall plantation in South Carolina. #ReadyToBeSharpe.
