Karah and Ellison
How We Met
Ellison and I first met at the ages of 8 and 10 when his family invited mine over to go swimming. The next time we saw each other again was in high school. I was a freshman and he was a junior. April 16, 2006 is when we became official. Our relationship went through many battles, from my friends/families disapproving and seeing him behind their backs to a crazy fight that led to our 2 year breakup. In 2012, we decided to give it another try but it still was a battle to be together. Ellison had a lot of work to do to show he changed and gain my family’s approval back. After getting through that obstacle, we are now 11 years since we first started dating and now engaged to be married with the blessing of my family. We couldn’t be happier!
How He Asked
Ellison and I moved into our first apartment together in March 2017. We decided to invite our families and close friends over for Easter as a home warming party. Outside our apartment we had our nieces and nephew play egg hunt. At the end of the hunt, Ellison states, “there’s one last egg, a golden egg with the grand prize”.
That’s when he pulled out the golden egg which had the ring of my dreams inside. He got down on one knee asking me to marry him saying, “I don’t want to be best friends anymore, I don’t want to be roommates, I want to be husband and wife with you.
You are my universe, you are my nurse to my life and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” I of course said yes in tears!
What made this more special is that it was also our 11 year anniversary and he proposed to me in front of our families and friends.
And just as I thought nothing could get better than this, he gave me a frame of all the movie tickets we ever went to together as an anniversary gift.
He saved nearly 11 years worth of movie tickets! It’s the most thoughtful and romantic thing I’ve ever received, I cannot wait to be his wife!
