Kaity and Bill

How We Met

On September 12th, 2009, I was meeting my friends in Columbus for the Ohio State vs USC football game. They had already picked up their tickets from the ticket window before I arrived, so I had to wait in line by myself. This was a long line and a long time to wait, so I struck up a conversation with the guy next to me… I love to talk and, as it turns out, he loves to listen! We chatted for an hour but then went our separate ways after exchanging phone numbers. We all moved back in to our college houses the next week and Bill texted me to ask me out on a date. We went to see Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, came back to a bonfire at his fraternity house, and then talked until 3 am. By October 12th, we were officially dating, and we have been inseparable ever since!

How He Asked

On April 16, 2016, Bill and I were supposed to go to the Ohio State spring football game down at the Shoe. I had a feeling he was going to propose to me back in Columbus where it all began. He came to my house to pick me up for the trip and I was dressed in my Scarlet and Gray. Everything seemed like it was going according to plan until I got in the car and found a note on the seat saying there was a change of plans and we were going somewhere else but the destination was a surprise. He had me put on a blindfold, planning on only having me wear it until we were on the highway so I was confused about the way we were going. I didn’t complain like he thought I would (I was trying to be good since I figured something special was happening that day!), so I ended up wearing the blindfold for THREE HOURS.

This was through toll booths, traffic, and other people around us. It is a wonder no one stopped us for kidnapping! We finally got to our destination and it turns out we were at Niagara Falls. We walked across the street from the hotel to the water and walked along, taking pictures. Bill was acting strange at this point so we stopped and just looked at the falls. He then turned to me and told me that even in front of one of the wonders of the world, I was the most wonderful thing he saw… he said a lot more but I was crying at this point. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course I said yes, and we spent the rest of the weekend touring the falls.
