How We Met

Shane and I were both in places in our lives where we weren’t sure if marriage was even in the cards for us.  It was something we both had been praying so fervently about, but continued to trust in His plan for our lives.  I happened to be working with Shane’s best friend, Nick, during her transition between jobs (Nick and I also went to college together).  Nick told me he had a friend he wanted me to go on a date with.  I wasn’t sure if he was joking or not and continued to say “no, no” but he insisted saying, “It’s just one date..it’s not like I’m asking you to marry the guy!”…I agreed to ONE date.

Shane and I texted back and forth for a couple of weeks before deciding to meet up in Athens.  Shane drove all the way from Atlanta to meet up with me at one of my favorite places downtown – Walker’s.  We hit it off instantly and Shane asked me on another date the following weekend…the rest is history. :)

How He Asked

Shane and I were going to go on a double date with Nick (the guy who set them up) and his wife, Lauren.  All I knew was we were going to dinner and a movie.  Before leaving Atlanta, we received a text message from Nick saying that Lauren’s boss had gotten permission for them to go on the field at Sanford Stadium and they were going to take their daughter, Ellie, to get pictures before dinner if we wanted to join.  Of course, we were game.  We pull in at the player’s entrance where we were told to park and I noticed a family friend (Steve) walk up to the car.  I figured this was just a small world that this was Lauren’s boss’ friend.  Steve allowed us inside the gate and we walked around on the field.  Of course, I was in heaven because I was raised attending UGA football games ever since I can remember and I also graduated from UGA.  Nick and Lauren began taking pictures of Ellie while Shane and I walked around.  I then asked Lauren if she could grab a couple of pictures of Shane and me.  After Lauren get a few, she wanted to get a few more of Ellie then be on the way to dinner.  As I walked away from Shane, he pulled my hand and says “I’m not finished..” I turn around and Shane is down on one knee.  All I could say was, “Are you serious? Is this for real?!”  Shane assured me it was and said the sweetest words I have ever heard before.  He then asked me to marry him and of course, I said yes.  He then pulls out the most beautiful ring I have ever laid eyes on.  Steve comes on the field congratulating us, then turns me towards the stands and says “If you look up in the stands, you will see two people waving.” There stood my parents waving.  I was shocked! My parents came running down to congratulate us.  Soon after, my dad said that they were late for dinner.  I then find out Shane had made reservations for us at my favorite restaurant downtown – Shokitini!  As we are walking towards the door at Shokitini, he says, ” There’s one more surprise for you…” I opened the door and noticed seven of my best friends standing right in front of me.  I was speechless and began to cry (happy tears :) ).  We all went into a private karaoke room and celebrated!
