Julianna and Ethan
How We Met
Ethan and I met when we were 14 at a high school YoungLife camp. I first saw him while I was in my cabin with my friends, and we were startled by a group of boys outside throwing snowballs at our window. I thought one of them was pretty cute, and we were introduced later that evening. I had no idea I was meeting the man I would one day marry (and I didn’t even have much interest when we first met!), but God brought me to YoungLife camp as a place where I could learn about His goodness and He just happened to put my future husband in my path along the way.
How He Asked
We were on a road trip to California with two of our best friends who are also dating. One night we went out to dinner, and after our meal the boys told us they had a surprise for us. They blindfolded us and had us get in the car to drive us to our mystery destination. (Side note: Ethan LOVES surprises and mystery dates, so this wasn’t suspicious at all for me!) Still blindfolded, he walked me across the sand and sat me down in a lawn chair. A laptop was handed to me and headphones were placed on my head, and I then heard Ethan’s voice come through the headphones telling me to take off my blindfold. As I did, I saw Ethan’s brother in front of me, who is a videographer from Colorado (Ethan had flown him in to California!) and our two friends standing a ways back on the beach. A video of Ethan started playing on the laptop where he explained why he loves me and the story of our relationship.
The video concluded with a shot of Ethan and our dog, Willow, telling me to turn around. Ethan was standing behind me by the waves, and as I got to him he told me he was in love with me (for the first time!), got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife.
