Julia and Cameron | Proposal in Scotland
How We Met: Cameron and I met in 2007 in our home town of Ocala, FL through mutual friends (nothing fancy). Our first year and a half of dating was long distance while I finished my bachelors degree at Florida State University. It was tough being apart, but we each made the trip once per month so we were able to see each other every other weekend. About a year later we moved to South Florida for our next adventure: graduate school! The next two and a half years Cameron was a huge support as I completed my occupational therapy program, and 6 months of intense (unpaid) externships. The past 6 years has been filled with adventures, excitement, and love!
How He Asked: For years Cameron and I talked about our desire to travel the world. We were invited to go to Scotland for my mom’s graduation from University of Aberdeen, and couldn’t pass the opportunity up! Our flight was set for Thanksgiving day, so after stuffing our bellies with food, and a “to-go” plate of pie (which we devoured in the car) we were off on our 11 hour journey to the UK. We spent our first few days sightseeing in Aberdeen and Inverness. The scenery and culture of Scotland is so beautiful and romantic! On Monday December 2nd we bundled up (these Florida natives were NOT used to 30 degree weather!), grabbed our cameras, and set out to explore what we named “Castle Day”. Our itinerary included Loch Ness, Urquhart Castle and Eilean Donan Castle. After a 2 hour drive through the Scotland highlands (and many stops to take tourist pictures in red phone booths, and of long haired cows) we arrived at Eilean Donan Castle. After a brief guided tour through the inside of the castle we stopped to take some pictures. I stood there posing for the “last” picture, with a frozen smile (literally). Cameron turned to me, and said ‘You know I love you..” Looking back that is truly all I can recall of what he said (although I am sure he said some really wonderful things). He got down on one knee, and placed a beautiful ring on my finger. Through a blur of emotions and frozen, shaking hands I said YES! What a fairytale, engaged in Scotland at a 13th century castle, I couldn’t believe it! We spent the rest of the trip in post-engagement bliss! Skyping family to tell them the news, (my dad already knew because Cameron asked for his blessing before the trip), and taking cheesy ring pictures at every opportunity. I cant wait to spend the rest of my life with my best friend!
