Julia and Andrew
How We Met
So a redhead and a brunette walked into a college bar… No joke, that’s actually how we met. During my last year of college, I was out celebrating a friend’s birthday when I saw this handsome, 6-and-a-half-foot-tall redhead. This particular bar had an xbox, so I challenged him to a game of Fifa (yes, the soccer game). He definitely did not let me win, but he did get my number! A few days later, he asked me on our first date – dinner at my favorite restaurant, bowling, and a scary movie. The lesser-known part of our story is that I wasn’t ready for a relationship at the time, so he told me he would wait for me. Four months later, he was still waiting for me – his patience and respect for me let me know that Drew is “my person.” I can’t imagine life without him!
How He Asked
On my birthday, I opened up a giant box with a few sheets of paper at the bottom – Andrew had booked us a weekend in Callaway Gardens for their annual hot air balloon festival! I’d never been in a hot air balloon before, so to say that I was excited is an understatement. The surprise was sweetened even more when he told me that our friends Mary, Craig, and Davis would be coming as well! Fast forward to Saturday, September 2 in Callaway Gardens. We spent the day watching a dog show, learning about birds of prey, and ziplining – I kept saying it was the “best day ever!”
Early in the evening, we got in line for an air balloon ride. By the time we got to the front of the line, sunset had just started. Drew, Davis, and I went up in a balloon together and Davis was filming the ride on Drew’s GoPro camera. Drew starts talking about how much he loves me and I told him “I love you too, but look at this balloon!!!!” He started tearing up at this point and for those of y’all who know Drew, he’s not really a “crying person.”
Finally, he dropped to one knee and my first thought was that he was tying his shoe. Instead, he pulled out the most gorgeous ring I have ever seen and asked me if I “would make him the happiest man.” All I could say was “yes, yes, YES!!”
