How We Met

Cole and I have known each other basically our whole lives. Growing up, we our parents were great friends, we went to the same church, we went to the same school, and my next-door neighbor was his best friend. Needless to say, we saw each other all the time, but we were never interested in really getting to know one another. My eighth grade year in school, he and my brother began hanging out after school. He would ride home with us from school and come over to our house. Obviously, I thought he was so cute, but honestly, I did not like him! Over the course of about six months or so, we steadily began to talk more and more. Eventually, he asked me to go with him and his parents to a t-ball game…I know, how cute! I talked my father into letting me go, and from that day forward, I knew that I wanted to be with him. I wish I could explain just how giddy he made me. I acted so silly and shy in front of him. We became official during the summer before my first year of high school, and we have been together for seven and a half years now. We were high school sweethearts, and we both went to the same colleges. Looking at him know and thinking back on our childhood, it is so amazing to know that I ended up with him. From homecomings, proms, graduations, college formals, trips in and out of the states, to getting to love each other every day, I have absolutely found the one whom my soul loves.

How He Asked

Cole and I went to Paris, France for Spring Break during March of 2017. As soon as we flew into Paris, we immediately went to find our hotel room to get ready for out first night in France. We went to a restaurant right down the road from our hotel, and we stayed there for about three hours. I noticed all of our friends from school being extra nice and fun, but I only thought it was because every one was excited about our trip. From dinner, we rode some metro stations down to the Eiffel tower. We walked up to the tower and were immediately in awe. It was glowing immensely. I remember telling a friend, “It looks like Halloween with the colors of the lights a orangey/yellow and black color.” I was taking pictures of everything. We walked underneath the middle of the tower and then to the opposite side. The front side where we first entered, had concrete and was very crowded. The back side where we went to last had grass, trees, and less people. I still continued to take pictures of everyone. One of the girls in the group insisted on taking a picture of me with the Eiffel tower in the background, and so I did. I invited Cole over to take the picture, but he would not stand correctly. Instead of turning to the side, he kept twisting me to make me face him. I kept saying out loud “Cole, what are you doing?!” In the middle of me questioning him, Cole continues saying, “JudiBeth I know it has been a long and stressful day, but I have been waiting a very long time to do this..” and much more. I completely zoned out. I had no idea what he was saying. I was absolutely panicking. It was like I was in a different world. In my mind, all I could think was, “Either A) Cole is just saying all of these nice things and being goofy to throw me off of getting close to finding out when he is going to propose or B) oh crap he is really doing this!!” By the time I finished thinking all of that, cole had gotten down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said yes and immediately grabbed the ring to make sure it wasn’t fake and wasn’t a joke. I saw the beautiful ring, said yes and thank you, gave him back the ring, let him put it on my finger while he was on one knee again, and kissed him. Meanwhile, everyone from the trip is watching and taking pictures. They were all so nice and precious. Everyone was extremely excited and loving. I automatically began asking questions like “who knows, who should we tell, how did you do this, how long have you known.” The rest of the night, we enjoyed our proposal and called to tell our families. We only told our families, so we could keep our trip private and completely enjoy Paris. Cole designed the ring own his on, and had a designer from Memphis, TN make my beautiful ring.
