How We Met

Dexter and I met during medical school in Philadelphia. I actually didn’t have the best impression of him when I first met him (he claims he kept his distance because his friends were attracted to me), but soon he became one of my closest friends. Dexter is the kind of guy that is friends with everyone because he is kind, genuine, fun-loving, and always there when you need a friend. These are the exact qualities that drew me closer to him and eventually we started dating. As luck would have it, we started dating after the “match” for residency and we spent the first year of our relationship apart (he was in Chicago, I was in New Haven). By the grace of God and a stroke of good luck, Dexter was able to transfer into my program and our relationship continued to blossom during our residency!

How He Asked

Dexter and I did not have a vacation for the past 9 months and decided to take an epic trip visiting each other’s motherlands, Philippines and South Korea.

We had heard so many amazing things about  Palawan in the Philippines and booked a couple nights at the Miniloc island resort. In the past few weeks Dexter and I had talked about getting engaged but he told me that he wasn’t planning on proposing during the trip. Can you believe I fell for it? Dex planned a private dinner for us the first night on the island and so we took a speedboat from our resort to a small private beach nestled in between two giant cliffs. The beach was decorated with candles that were dug into the sand and it was honestly the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Can you believe I still had no clue what was going on? Well, I didn’t! Dexter suggested that we take some photos and when we stood up from the table, he got on one knee and proposed. In a barrage of tears, I said yes! We are so excited to take our next steps in life together!
