Josh and Nicole

how we met

It was my sophomore year of high school and Josh’s senior year. I was hanging out with my girlfriends and they decided to throw a small house party that night. Who would have known that party would change the rest of the my life! I met Josh that night and instantly got butterflies in my stomach, but I just thought it was because I was nervous that he was a cute older boy. We didn’t exchange numbers that night but a few days later I asked my friend for his number and sent the first text message. After dating for a few months we made it official in March 2008. One of our first fancy dates was at The Chart House in Weehawken, NJ and it quickly became our go-to restaurant for special occasions. It really became a special place for us when we celebrated our first anniversary there, then for the next 9 years we kept the tradition going.

how he asked

The day we got engaged I thought we were going to The Chart House for an engagement party of a friend. Josh sent me a fake invitation and even had me go buy a gift. When we arrived, we were told that the party room was not open yet. Josh suggested we go outside to take some pictures of the NYC skyline. When we got outside he asked me to sign the card because he “forgot.”

Not suspecting a thing, I agreed, and when I opened the card I found a handwritten note. After reading the note, I turned around and there he was on his knee and he asked, “Nicole, will you marry me?” Cue ugly cry face and the tears! I said YES!

He even went as far as having a photographer there to capture the moment. So after we took some pictures he told me that we had a reservation to eat. Being so excited and still in shock all I wanted to do was go straight home to see our families.

We decided to sit for a little bit and ordered a bottle of champagne to celebrate. Everyone was so excited to see us and they were texting us non-stop to congratulate us and to see when we would be home. When we got in the car to go home Josh asked if we could stop to see his grandma first and I agreed. When we got to his house I was completely surprised and taken off guard to see all of our families and close friends there waiting for us to arrive and celebrate with us. Yet another surprise! It’s safe to say he did an amazing job planning everything out and I really am the luckiest girl in the world!
