Jordyn and Brady

How We Met: Brady and I first ‘met’ online about 7 years ago when I was 16 and he was 18. We casually talked on and off for about two years before meeting each other in person.

After I graduated high school, I was living with my best friend. One night we were bored and I kept thinking, “I haven’t talked to that Brady kid in a while. I should text him.” So I texted him asking to hang out and finally meet me (not thinking he would really go for it) but to my surprise, he did!

He had just bought a new car, so I like to think that the only reason he even showed up was to show off his new ride. After that night, the rest is history. We have been attached at the hip ever since and have now been together for 5 years.

A couple months into dating, he showed up with a ring-pop and asked me to “marry him”. It became an inside joke and that was the moment we both knew we were in love.

After that, anytime wedding rings came up I always told him how I DREAMED of having a black diamond ring. It’s unique, simple, and something not a lot of girls would even think about having. He always laughed and just said ‘OK’.

How He Asked: My family moved to the Oregon coast about 2 years ago due to my dad’s job. I have been out to visit plenty of times, but Brady was never able to come with due to work. This year, we we were finally able to plan a trip out there together for Labor Day weekend to end our Summer. I was so excited to take him to the beautiful PNW and show him around to all of the scenic sites; one in particular – The Haceta Head Lighthouse. When I visited the lighthouse with my family previously, I absolutely fell in love with it and I knew he would too.

We flew into town the Saturday before Labor Day and were planning out our week. On the morning of September 8th, we decided we would go to lunch and then we would go to the lighthouse and adventure by ourselves since my parents both had to work. (Month’s leading up to the trip, all he could talk about was how excited he was to see the lighthouse). After lunch, we headed back to the house to pick up my little sister (who happens to be a really great photographer) as she wanted to tag along to get some pictures.

When we got to the parking area, she dug out her camera and got behind us and started taking pictures as we started the 15 minute walk to the lighthouse. This wasn’t unusual, as I’ve always said I want more pictures of us.

When we finally reached the top, we were happy to find that we were the only one’s there. We made our way over to the observation area and checked out the view. It was rather windy and cold, so Brady came up behind me to keep me warm. He then stepped away to help my sister “change lenses” on her camera, which again, wasn’t unusual. He came back to me and turned me around. He grabbed my face and kissed me and told me he loved me. He then started to reach for his back pocket and said “Well, there’s actually another reason I was so excited to come here..” Before I could blink, he was on one knee with the biggest smile on his face, and he was saying those 4 words.. “Will you marry me?” I screamed “YES!” before he could even finish the sentence. I immediately grabbed his face and kissed him. I kept asking him, “Is this really happening?” I just couldn’t believe it. I then looked down as tears were rolling down my face and saw the most beautiful black diamond ring I have ever seen.

I looked over as my sister was still snapping pictures, tears rolling down her face too, and realized she had been in on this for months and helped him plan the whole thing. I still couldn’t believe this was real life and that I was now engaged to the man of my dreams and my soul mate. I am still completely and utterly on cloud 9.
