Jordan and Ryan
How We Met
Ryan and I met in Sydney, Australia. Each of us were studying music and media at Hillsong Church, Ryan is from Canada and I’m from America. We first met at a mutual friend’s place, going over a new media business possibility — we caught each other’s eyes but that wasn’t when the spark really hit…
February came and went and come March, we were each volunteering at an incredible women’s conference, Colour Conference at Hillsong Church. We ran into each other a few times, were able to talk a bit more and that sent Ryan on a search to get my contact info and ask me out to coffee (which funny enough, we’re fully tea people at heart). We hung out the next Friday with some good friends, on Good Friday, and it was still to this day, one of the best days we’ve ever had together. After taking a drive across the Great Northern Road in Sydney, we gazed at the sunset over the most beautiful beach I had ever seen, went to the incredible Glow Worm tunnels in Lithgowe Sydney, and followed it all up with delicious American style burgers for dinner…it was nothing less than amazing from there on out!
Needless to say, we were positive shortly into dating that, this was it! We’re best friends and passionate about each other and loving each other the way God would have us to, or at least trying our best, every moment of every day.
We finished our studies in Australia and headed home(s) to meet the families! America was a blast with my family, and then came, Canada, our new home and future. The day came quickly, because we had already began to plan our wedding with our families blessings before coming to Northern America! Once we were here, Ryan asked my dad for his blessing, then 2 days into our Canada trip he popped the question!
How He Asked
He told me we were going to a super nice restaurant for lunch and also stop at a cool spot along the way. So, we each got dressed up, luckily I had even done my nails the night before! He drove to Echo Lake in BC, Canada. He found the lookout where he’d prepared everything in and he led me down a little path through the trees down to the water.
He had the sweetest canoe that was beautiful and green (my favorite colour!) like the lake, an old trunk and picnic basket nestled perfectly in the canoe floor.
I knew at that moment what was going on and couldn’t stop smiling! He helped me in and we floated out to the water.
As we were floating he pulled out a note he had ready to read to me, and then said he had one last question he has to ask me, “will you marry me?”…. Soaking in the moment I said “of course I will, yes!”
Then I saw the photographers (His two cousins!) sneaking around on the bank capturing the whole thing, we took some more photos on the lake, and then jumped in the car to go on an engagement photoshoot!
It was finally our turn (as this is what we do for a living!). After we finished that, we looked through his old family trunk that he had packed with tons of beautiful gifts, a lovely bottle of wine, and my favorite, pumpkin pie! We then went on to our next adventure! We drove to another stunningly gorgeous mountainous lake, and spent the day with it all to ourselves on a little pebble beach with our picnic and some Okanagan apple and peach ciders to cool us down in the breezy summer air.
It was perfect.
