Jonathon and Kelly | Sarasota Beach Proposal
How We Met: Jon and I met when he was brought in as a consultant at the LPGA in Daytona Beach, which is where I work. Jon was tasked with building a new piece of software for the LPGA’s Communications Department, and I was put in charge of managing that project for the Communications team.
I’ll never forget the day that Jon walked in my office and we were introduced the first time. I immediately felt a connection and couldn’t wait to get to know this guy! We had a few meetings that first week and I was amazed by how we seemed to work together and communicate effortlessly. He surprised me with how perceptive he was, even having my favorite soda (Coke Zero) there for me during one of our meetings.
My 30th birthday came during an LPGA tournament week and Jon happened to be there that week to get some information for the project we were working on together. I invited him to come out with all of my co-workers that night and the next night, he asked me on our first date. The rest is history.
How He Asked: Memorial Day weekend was coming up and Jon surprised me by planning a two-day trip across the state to Sarasota. Normally I am the one who does all of our travel plans since I travel all of the time for work, but this time he handled everything. I was excited to get a chance for a mini-vacation!
We stayed at the Ritz Carlton Sarasota and spent the first day enjoying hanging out by the beach. It was a perfect getaway to spend some time relaxing together. On Monday, Jon told me that he wanted to end our trip with a nice dinner out before one last drink by the beach closer to sunset. Our 14th month anniversary of our first date had also been that week so he told me that he had a little anniversary surprise. This was nothing new as he’s very thoughtful and had done some something special every month for our anniversary.
Jon and I got dressed up for our fun evening out in St. Armand’s Circle and enjoyed a great dinner and some ice cream in the area. We then headed back to the Ritz Carlton Beach Club for one drink down by the beach. It was a very hot day so we decided after getting our drinks at the Tiki Bar to go sit upstairs in the bar. Jon told me that my surprise was running a little behind but he would be right back. After a couple minutes, Jon came back up to get me and said, ‘Ok, follow me.’
We walked down the steps down to the pool area at the Ritz and as we rounded the corner, we came upon a private cabana that was decorated with rose petals and suddenly I saw two big picture frames with photos of us.
I immediately started to cry as I knew this wasn’t just one of his typical surprises. Jon guided me over to the photos and explained how one frame was photos of our first 14 months together and the second frame included photos from when we had visited one possible wedding venue. He told me this frame was for our future photos and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and got down on one knee to propose. It was absolutely perfect and I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful or more romantic proposal!
