Jonathan and Courtney
How We Met
I met Jonathan 6 years ago through a mutual friend. He was seeing someone at the time, and had recently come off of a nationally televised singing competition called Can You Duet on CMT where he was in the group JB Rocket. Being a singer myself, Jon and I instantly hit it off and our personalities created a perfect friendship. During our days off I would help him decorate his then girlfriend’s car with sweet gestures, and even went as far as trying on “possible” engagement rings for her (he wanted to see how the ring looked on a female’s hand). All the while, I was crazy about him but just knew in my heart (or so I thought) that he didn’t feel the same for me. Eventually him and his then girlfriend broke up and our friendship remained. We started hanging out almost every day, and even started singing at weddings together. At one wedding in particular I remember us hanging out at the reception joking around that if neither of us were married by 30 we would just marry one another! After years of going on weekly “friend-dates” to the movies, one afternoon we went on the “friend date” that changed the trajectory of our relationship. We were riding in the car heading to the cinema talking about what had been going on in our lives lately when Jonathan mentioned that he was thinking about dating someone.
For the first time in a long time, I felt insanely jealous – I even mentioned to him that if I were to tell his mom that I was in love with her son that she would all but force him to be with me.That’s when I actually gained the courage and texted his mother saying, “I think I am in love with your son”. Needless to say by that afternoon he had texted me to let me know that he himself actually had feelings for me as well for a very long time but didn’t want anything to mess up our friendship. From that moment on we have been inseparable.
How He Asked
Throughout our years of friendship Jonathan and I would always record videos of him singing at this small white chapel in the mountains of North Carolina. Once we began dating and became serious, we talked about how neat it would be for us to get married at this very chapel! Jonathan owns a graphic design company, and I am a photographer so we work together professionally quite a bit. On Nov 9, 2015 Jon had requested that I meet him at “our chapel” to make some promo videos with my camera for one of his graphic design clients. It was a Monday morning, and pouring the rain and quite frankly I was dreading the entire thing, but I knew I would be helping Jon out so I was happy to go hang out and work with him and dream about “one day” walking down the isle to him while at the chapel. Because it was raining so hard he told me to leave my equipment in the car and just come inside, and that he would come out to get everything for me so I wouldn’t get soaked. I opened up the doors to the chapel and to my HUGE surprise I saw and heard a camera start firing off. I then saw an isle full of rose petals with candles lining it. After taking in the initial shock I saw him. The love of my life, my best friend, standing at the end of the beautifully decorated isle. I began to cry as I heard a song that he had written and recorded for our one year anniversary playing in the background. I saw his mom and mine hiding in a corner with my best friend from MA watching via facetime. He held on to my hands and then he said these amazing words
The final paragraph of his proposal is from the song he wrote me that was playing in the background (It even lined up while he was reading it to me)!! After the song and he ended, he got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I of course said yes (while Kim K ugly crying ) !!! He knew my sweet photographer’s heart and had arranged for a fellow photographer friend of mine Katie Adcox to capture the entire thing, and have a short photo session with us afterwards! On November 11, 2016 I will walk down that same aisle, in that same chapel again to the man of my dreams to say I DO! I know everyone says they are getting to marry their best friend, but I really am truly getting to marry mine. I am the luckiest girl in the entire world.
