Lauren and Jon
How We Met
One afternoon a few years ago my dad invited me to lunch with with my stepmother, her parents and him to visit with my stepsister in Boston. She had recently started school at The Naval Academy Prepartory School in Newport, RI and that day they were bussing students to the city for a scavenger hunt.
I agreed to go, looking forward to some quality family time. My stepsister invited about 6 of her friends to join us for a pizza lunch in the North End. I admittedly felt a bit intimated by the students in their uniforms, so I just focused on my family and didn’t socialize much.
We said our goodbyes after lunch as my stepsister and her classmates hopped back on the bus headed back to school in Rhode Island. About a half hour later I receive a text from her asking if I noticed the boy with the blonde hair and blue eyes.
I told her I hadn’t and she said that he thought I was pretty and asked her if I was single. I was so flattered but left it at just a nice compliment that he was interested in me.
i couldn’t stop thinking about him and had been looking at his Facebook profile photos for about a week before I mustered up the courage to message him. He asked me on a movie date and we fell for each other quickly. A month later he gave me a promise ring.
How He Asked
Jon was home on summer break in Massachusetts for a couple of weeks from The Naval Academy in Maryland. Our absolute favorite spot to visit when he’s home is Newport, Rhode Island. We love the ocean and especially that little sailing town since it’s where we first dated. So this past June we planned a day trip to Newport. After lunch, we took a drive along the water to look at all of the gorgeous houses on Ocean Avenue. We parked the car in a small lot on the drive and walked across the street to the ocean onto massive slated rocks where I was looking for sea glass and heart shaped rocks. I heard Jon call from behind me asking if what we found was sea glass, when I turned around to answer, he was on one knee holding a ring.
