Lauren and Joe
Joe and I met through mutual friends while attending college at Duquesne University while socializing on the infamous, Pittsburgh “southside”. Even though our accounts on the first time we met vary, we continued to cross paths throughout college and after. (There might have been a fake number or two tossed in the mix, but persistence paid off). Graduation came and went, and the years went by until a warm, summer night in June 2014 when we were both at a downtown bar, Sienna Mercato. Correct numbers were exchanged, and the first date turned into a second date, and then a third…and the rest is history!
Joe proposed to me on a trip we took to Sonoma and Napa, California in September 2016. We spent the morning driving up the California coast and started our day of wine tasting at Buena Vista Winery in Sonoma. While taking a tour there, our guide asked if we wanted to see the “bubble room” and do a free champagne tasting. Joe knew I would never turn down a glass of champagne. I just thought we were getting the special treatment because we were the only ones there. We were led into this secret cave that was decked out with opulent couches, chandeliers, and fireplaces.
Alone in the room, they seated us in this special, velvet booth. When the server brought us the second bottle of champagne to taste, she talked about the champagne and then said ” there’s a special message on the back…” She turned the bottle around and it said, “Will you marry me Lauren E. Drozdiel?” It took a minute for me to register what was happening. To be honest, my first thought was “Oh, that’s a nice message”. Then I realized it was MY name on the bottle and that Joe had a ring in his hand. I finally put 2 + 2 together to realize he was proposing…and said “Are you serious? YES!”
