Joe and Angela
how We Met
I have to thank my sister, Bianca, for setting up our fateful meeting on New Years Eve.
Bianca’s boyfriend of the time was Joe’s neighbor and friend. This led to Bianca becoming very close to Joe and his family. I had met Joe a couple of times, however but he was in a relationship.
After graduating college in May 2012, I moved back home to pursue a teaching career in elementary education.
New Years Eve December 31st 2012:
My sister and I were planning to have a relaxing NYE celebrating at her place. Her boyfriend of the time was away and I was single. It was a spur of the moment decision to head to New York City that evening. “Why not, we are young in our 20’s, let’s take a train into the city to celebrate!” Bianca decided to ask her good friend Joe to join us. Joe had broken up with his ex a year ago and was also single. Joe showed up at Bianca’s place looking very handsome in a suit jacket. After being surrounded by immature college guys for 4 years, I was a little intimated by Joe at first.
However, as the night progressed, I felt very comfortable and protected having him there with us in the city. He was a gentleman the entire night opening doors for my sister and I, paying for beverages, and staying with us. It was very refreshing and different from the college guys I had hung out with. It turned out we also had amazing chemistry. After a night of dancing, a couple of drinks, and ringing in the New Year, we had a fateful News Years kiss and the rest is history.
How he asked
Flash forward 3 ½ years later and we are living together with an adorable Goldendoodle named Charlie. It had been a desire for us to make a trip to visit our colleges. I went to the University of Loyola in Baltimore, MD and he went to University of Richmond in VA. For my 26th birthday and Joe gifted me with a weekend trip to visit our colleges. I was super excited to see my campus again and visit his campus. He had raved about how gorgeous and unique the campus was; he even compared the campus to Hogwarts. As part of my birthday weekend Joe also gifted me with a photo shoot on the campus. He said, “The campus is so beautiful, it will be a nice memory to have.” Little did I know he was planning a lot more than a photo shoot. After a beautiful Friday evening in Baltimore we got up early Saturday morning and drove to Richmond, VA.
Our first stop was Carytown, where we found a place to eat lunch and shop. I found a lovely pale pink, scalloped hem dress that was perfect for the photo shoot. When we arrived at the campus later we met our photographer and her husband. They were very friendly and made the experience enjoyable. We walked around the campus stopping periodically to take pictures. Everyone was calm and collected; I didn’t suspect a thing.
After about 30 minutes of pictures we slowly made our way to the gazebo.
Our photographer had positioned us at a beautiful location and I was ready for another picture. Suddenly Joe stepped away, pulled out the ring box, went down on one knee, and asked me to marry him.
After a few moments of disbelief, grasping the reality that this was really happening, I said yes and the celebrating began!
