Jillian and Sam
How We Met
Sam and I met 10 years ago at Cornell University.
My sister, Samantha, introduced her friend, Sam, to my family and me. They were both about to start their freshman year; I was starting my sophomore year of high school. We said hello and saw each other a few times over the next several years, but I never saw him as anything more than “my sister’s friend.” Things changed, however, 2 and a half years ago, at my sister’s wedding. I was the maid of honor and he was the best man. We had our first dance, followed two weeks later by our first date. The rest is history!
How He Asked
On Friday October 9th, Sam and I were supposed to go to a fancy dinner. Unfortunately, I was sick and we had to cancel. I thought it would be a great night for a proposal, however, but my mom convinced me it was not going to happen. In hindsight, she is a great actress. The next day, October 10th, Sam suggested we go for a walk in Central Park, near our apartment. Being my typical stubborn self, I said we needed to clean and do laundry first! Although he was not happy about the wait, we finally went on this walk. I couldn’t figure out why he wanted to go on this walk so much! After a few minutes of walking, when we were in a quiet area, Sam got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. If I had known he was going to propose, I would have never done those chores!
