Jillian and Nick
How We Met
We met through our mutual friends, Jen and Greg, in 2006 during our senior year of high school at a country club pool. We are actually both so so shy that we didn’t say one word to each other when we met! Get ready for this throwback: We first spoke on MySpace messages. But eventually we went to texting and stayed up until 4AM learning about each other! Fast forward to the junior homecoming dance- Nick asked me to be his girlfriend and the rest is history!
How He Asked
We’ve been together for 9.5 years now, since we were 16. Naturally, we get engagement questions, all. the. time!!!! and I STILL didn’t expect or suspect anything.
SIDE NOTE: A week before we were supposed to leave on vacation with Nick’s family to North Carolina, my dog’s (aka my child’s) back legs went paralyzed and he had to have emergency surgery. I was pretty set on skipping out on vacation until my mom talked some sense into me and said she would take care of the dog while I was away. I thought it was really weird that she didn’t want the help! (I now know that she knew everything that was going to happen!!!)
So on our third day of vacation, which was Memorial Day, we all went hiking to Catawba Falls. We also did this four years ago and it’s completely breathtaking!!! It’s a lot of work to get up to the waterfalls but completely worth it. I still had no idea what was going on!!! I figure if anything were to happen, he would be acting weird and whatnot. My friend Jen even texted me “no ring yet????” and I wrote back “i don’t think thats going to happen lol”. Little did I know, about an hour later the love of my life would be getting down on his knee (on a slippery high up rock) to ask me to marry him! We were just posing for a regular picture, and that’s when it happened! I had to text Jen again like “Yeah about that…”! I don’t think I stopped shaking for 20 minutes.
After getting over the initial shock I learned that he had this ring since September(!!!almost 9 months ago!!!) and was waiting for the perfect moment! He stole one of my rings last year to get it perfectly sized for me and everything!
When we got back to the cabin, his family put on a gorgeous display to celebrate our engagement (in under an hour I might add)! There were so many little touches that made us feel so appreciated. It truly was the best day of my life and I can’t wait to see what is next for us!
