Jessie and Houston

How We Met

Houston and I went to high school together. We reconnected through social media and we immediately hit it off.

How He Asked

Houston’s family invited me to go to the beach with them. Of course I couldn’t turn down the offer. On July 4th, we went to the beach to take family pictures. We had little American flags for the pictures, but we wanted pictures with a big flag. His father spotted one a good distance away, so Houston and I went down the beach to ask if we could borrow it. His parents stayed behind. When we got to the flag, Houston’s father called and said to hurry back because they dropped his mothers earring and we needed to help look. We headed back. His father had drawn a grid for everyone to have their own section to search for the lost earring. As I looked through the sand, I found a message in a bottle instead! The bottle had a message in it asking, “Will you marry me?” Then Houston got down on one knee, and asked for my hand in marriage. Of course I said yes. When I looked up, I saw my parents there! They drove all the way to the beach to witness our proposal. Houston and his family were so creative! This is a memory I will never forget.
