Jessica and Zach
How We Met
Zach and I met on August 21, 2015. It was a Friday night and I was out with his sister Erica and she was driving us that night. I was getting antsy around 10:00 p.m. to go home for the night but she talked me into staying out longer because she wasn’t ready to go yet…(typical E!) She also explained to me that her brother who rarely comes out was on his way to meet up with us. Well let’s just say how I glad I am that I didn’t leave becuase a few minutes later, Zach would enter the bar! My immediate reaction would be to whisper to Erica “Is that your brother?!” with a smirk on my face.
Erica still didn’t want to go home about an hour later and offered up her adorable brother to drive me home. (Lucky me!) For the 14 minutes it took for this handsome man to drive me to my house, I serenaded him with my singing talent and undoubtedly left an impact because two days later, we met for our first date – coffee! Have a profession as a firefighter, Zach has a weird schedule and asked me to join him for a coffee date on a Monday morning. And coffee was just the beginning! We went on three dates that first week!
How He Asked
Remember the first coffee date? Zach took that into consideration when he carefully prepared his proposal. On a Friday morning breakfast date down in Key Largo, FL, he dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him but not before asking his sister to record it and letting the restaurant in on the plan!
Little did I know what was waiting for me after I finished my mug of orange juice that morning in the Keys. (I opted for OJ instead of coffee for once – go figure!) Zach was somewhat of a patient man as he waited for me finish drinking it. So much so, he literally asked to drink some of it! As I finished my last sip of OJ, I watched the words “Marry me?” come up at the bottom of the coffee mug.
At first I didn’t think it was real and full with emotion and tears, I spit out “Are you kidding me?” Nope. He wasn’t.
Zach: “You’re my best friend. Will you marry me?” Me: YES! (Through tears). It was seriously by far one of my most cherished moments with him. I absolutely cannot wait to marry him. He is without a doubt the best thing that has ever happened to me. He’s my favorite.
PS. We went back to the place where we had our first date – Grind & Grape in Vero Beach, FL and had our engagement photos taken there!
