Jessica and Taylor

How We Met

We met in college I was a year older than Taylor. I was a resident assistant in the freshman dorms and he was a freshman. We would periodically talk to each other in passing. The summer after his freshman year he messaged me on Facebook, then we exchanged numbers and talked all summer. Once school started up again I got busy with preparing for another group of freshman coming in, so we stopped talking at the beginning of the school year. About half way through the semester we reconnected.

Two days before we left for winter break he asked me if I would be his girlfriend, I said I didn’t want to do long distance so we should wait until we got back from winter break. Three days into winter break it was his birthday and I called him to wish him happy birthday, we talked for 3 hours (and if you know him that is a big deal, he is not much of a talker). Right at the end of the phone call I decided we could do this distance thing for a month and he was worth it, so we decided to give it a shot. And well the rest is history.

How He Asked

We are both huge Royals fans. It was the night the Kansas City Royals won the 2015 ALCS and clinched a berth in the World Series. He told me that he wanted to go on a walk to get out some excitement, but soon said he had actually planned a scavenger hunt for me to go on because he had a present he couldn’t wait until Christmas to give me.

The first clue took me to a bridge on our college campus, where there was a legend that prophesied that if you kissed your significant other on that bridge at midnight, you would get eventually get married.

After partaking in that and then a few more clues, we walked past a large canvas leaning up against a building on campus. It was a collage of photographs that he took of me at different places we’d been the past year. As I began to look more closely at the pictures, I noticed that there were objects (Trees, sticks, t shirt images, pencils, etc.) in the background of the pictures that spelled out “Will You Marry Me?” As I began to cry, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him, and of course I said yes!
