Jessica and Sean
How We Met
Sean and I met back in the spring of 2011 while attending James Madison University in Virginia, where he was a junior and I was a freshman at the time. I had a date function coming up for my sorority and was planning on asking one of the guys from my dorm. My friend Tara, however, had someone else in mind. She had been friends with Sean since the fall and knew we had seen each other in passing before. She texted me a few days before the date function and said I had to take Sean because he had mentioned to her how he wanted to meet me before! I figured why not?! He was cute and actually allowed to have a car at school so he could pick me up (freshman problems). I texted him to ask and luckily he said yes! We had a great time at the date function and have been together ever since! Sean graduated two years before me so we were long distance while I was still in college and he in NYC, then for a few years after graduation while I was in D.C. I moved up to be with him in the city at the beginning of this year and it has been so much fun to live with my best friend and the greatest roomie!
How He Asked
Sean and I have been together a little over six years so I knew the proposal had to be happening sometime soon, as I just had moved up to NYC the month prior to finally no longer be long distance! The morning of the proposal, Sean asked me if I wanted to go to Top of the Rock in the afternoon. I quickly said yes as I had been wanting to go there for a while! I didn’t really think anything of it until Sean said we should dress nice so we could get a Christmas card picture while we were up there. I thought “really Sean doesn’t plan a week in advance let alone ten months” but didn’t want to get my hopes up. So we got ready and all dressed up and headed out! Sean didn’t seem nervous at all so I convinced myself it wasn’t happening that day. When we got to the top, I kept walking away from him to see the views!
Finally, he told me to come over to where he was so we could get a picture. I figured he would just ask a random person to get our photo, but then he quickly got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I then finally noticed the photographer who had been there all along snapping away. I was so surprised and so so happy!
We took more pictures at the Top of the Rock, then headed over to Central Park to get some more. We celebrated with drinks at the plaza and dinner at a French Restaurant! It was the most perfect day and definitely the best day of my life.
