Jessica and Phil
How We Met
Phil and I met in grade nine geography class at Parkside Collegiate Institute way back in 2007. After playing hard to get, it took Phil nearly a year to have the courage to ask me out on a date. Now, almost 10 years later here we are, high school sweethearts engaged.
How He Asked
Phil and I planned a trip up north to Huntsville, Ontario, Canada a few weeks before Christmas to go dog sledding. In true Phil fashion, he decided that proposing during a dog sledding trip would be potentially a bad idea, in case I got hurt or he dropped the ring in the snow. To my surprise, after a scrumptious and romantic dinner at a local resort, Phil took me down to a beautiful dock on Muskoka River that was covered in 2 feet of snow. Thank goodness I had my winter boots on to help keep me warm as I had a black dress and stockings on from our dinner out.
After clearing a spot to get down on one knee, the man of my dreams asked me to marry him! Again, in true Phil fashion, he decided to push the ring far down in the box to make sure the ring didn’t fall in the snow or on the frozen lake. We tried about 20 times to get the perfect photo, but it was too dark, as it was now about 7pm. We decided to head into downtown Huntsville to take a photo under the streetlights. For someone who never smiles with his teeth, Phil definitely cracked a smile with teeth in these photos.
The next day we decided to go back to the exact spot Phil proposed, to find our path and proposal site still cleared and the snow and lake shimmering like the beautiful Canadian diamond he placed on my left hand the night before. This dock and the beautiful river will forever be in our hearts as a special place. To end off the weekend, we spent the afternoon dog sledding, a memory that we will always treasure. I can’t wait to marry my high school sweetheart!
