Jessica and Kenny

How we met: We met back in May 2011, when I took a temporary position as a bank teller at the local bank he was working at. Little did I know, that “temporary” position would change my life forever. After a few lunch breaks together, we began spending time outside of work – from picnics on the beach, to Blue Man Group Concerts, and long walks getting to know each other. It didn’t take me long to realize he was the one — in fact, I probably knew it after just a week of dating.

How he asked: My engagement was a complete and total surprise. He asked the day before we were leaving for our first official vacation to Punta Cana. I was without make-up, my nails were not done, and I would not have had it any other way. As we were driving our puppy to my parents’ house (they were going to take care of the pup during our vacation), he pulled out a blindfold and told me to put it on. I did – and started asking a ton of questions: “Where are we going?’; “are we there yet?”; “what is happening”?

As soon as we arrived to our destination, I knew we were at the beach. While blindfolded, I heard waves in the background and could feel the pup playing with the sand. Once the blindfold was off, I could see a picnic spread out on the beach, with our initials etched in a heart-shaped rose pedal outline. In the background was his laptop, playing the same song he played in this same location during one of our very first dates —  Taylor Swift’s “Mine”. Somehow, it felt like nothing changed in three years — the same butterflies, the same smile he always brings me.

He then dropped to his knee, as I held the puppy in my hands, and said, “This is where we had one of our first dates as boyfriend and girlfriend, and this will be our last date as that because I want you as my wife.” He pulled out the ring, and I could help but cry and smile at the same time. It was the best moment of my life. The pup approved, too.
