Jessica and Johnathan

Jessica's Proposal in Brides childhood home

How We Met

We met, in the fall of 2008, while attending our first semester of college at the University of Rhode Island. We immediately hit it off, and although we would not meet again until two years later, I knew there was something special about him. Johnathan later admitted that he knew that I would be coming back into his life. Fast forward two years, two college transfers and many conversations later, we rekindled our romance. After overcoming being long-distance for two and half years and living together for three years, we both knew that marriage was our next step to forever.

How He Asked

It was a snowy, winter evening, the night we were celebrating my mother’s birthday at my childhood home. All day, Johnathan was tricking me in an effort to keep me away from my parents house, by having me run meaningless errands. Little did I know, that my entire family was putting together what would be the most romantic night of my life. Johnathan and I arrived at my parents house for cocktails and appetizers before going out to dinner with my family. My father, invited us all out to the backyard to display his gift that was allegedly for my mothers birthday. That’s when he plugged in the Christmas lights that read “Will you marry me”. It took me a moment to realize what was even happening and that is when I felt a tap on my back. When I turned around, Johnathan was there on one knee, presenting me with the ring of my dreams. He asked, “Jessica Ashley Polo, I love you from the bottom of my heart. I loved you for years and I’ve known for a long time that I was going to spend the rest of my life with you, it’s time that we make it official, will you please marry me and make me the happiest man on Earth?” Through tears of joy I said, “Of course, YES!”
