Jessica and Jim
How We Met
It all started in August 2013, when Jim was a substitute for my co-ed flag football team. There were new rules in place and players were not allowed to wear pockets with shorts, due to someone breaking their finger when reaching for a flag off of someone else’s flag belt. When Jim arrived at the field, I immediately was struck by him. I walked over to Jim with a roll of duct tape in my hand and said, “Hi, my name is Jess and I’m going to tape your shorts.” Astonished, surprised, and dumbfounded, Jim looked at me and said “uhh, okay,” as I taped his short pockets without hesitation. Jim and I barely knew each other for even a millisecond!
On January 11, 2014, Jim and I had our first kiss! We stalked each other on Facebook, only to find out that Jim went to college with my sister! They even hung out a few times!! Small world! Obviously, we knew it was meant to be, so we started dating! Jim even asked me to be his date for his sister’s wedding in May 2014, where I met 250 family members all in one evening!!!!!
In June 2014, Jim relocated his job to Charlotte, NC, leaving me in NJ. We managed to do a very amazing long distance relationship for 3.5 years (to present time!) Over the course of the past 4 years, Jim and I have been to 20 weddings together. To say that we were ready for us to have a turn is an understatement!!!
How He Asked
We planned a trip to Disneyworld in Florida for February 2018 with my sister, her husband, and my 4-year-old niece. On our first day in the Magic Kingdom, Jim made everyone matching shirts. My shirt said: “remember that time.” My sister’s shirt said, “we went to Disneyworld.” And Jim then uncovered his shirt that read “I asked you to marry me.”
When putting it all together, our 2 shirts read “Remember that time I asked you to marry me.” After crying my eyes out of pure joy after 4 amazing years together, Jim got down on one knee and asked me the easiest question: of course, I said “YES!!” I can’t wait to marry this man!!!
