Jessica and Chad
How We Met
December 13, 2008
On a blistery cold December evening way back in 2008, two young naive kids went out in Georgetown to attend the annual Santa Stumble. Jessica, dressed as Vixen, had no idea what was in store for her on her night out with the girls. And Chad, dressed at Old Saint Nick, was merely celebrating his birthday with friends. It was at the Rhino, that Jessica’s eyes met Chad’s… for her it was love at first sight… for Chad he was simply wondering why some girl wouldn’t stop staring at him.
The rest, as they say, is blissful history.
How He Asked
March 15, 2015
Chad proposed to Jessica in front of Bethesda Fountain in Central Park, New York, NY.
Chad, ailing from a vicious stomach virus, had only one choice but to forge ahead with the plan. After nearly one year of meticulous planning he had no other choice. Today was the day. It was a Sunday… cool and gray. Sulaiman had driven north from Washington, DC and Paul had flown across the pond from Geneva, Switzerland for the event.
Sulaiman had been initially contacted in the previous summer and asked to lend his immense talents. Paul had been on board for months. Sulaiman’s talent? He is a surprisingly yet-to-be known, up-and-coming artist with a knack for beautifully weaving lyrics. He would lend the soundtrack to the occasion. After nine arduous months the song was written… it would be called “Tend to Your Heart.” Why Paul? A former on-air sportscaster for Al Jazeera with a British accent and an eye for beautifully capturing life’s moments… why not? It took a ten hour flight, days of story-boarding and a few gin and tonics to realize his visual wizardry… and bring the story to life.
How he asked? Chad invited Jessica to New York’s Central Park as an excuse to get some fresh air after days of feeling ill. Jessica was led through the winding, wooded paths of the park chatting about those we love and those we’ve lost. Sulaiman and Paul were in place, the song would be played and the moment captured. Chad presented the following message:
“I wrote this song for you. It’s a song about second chances. Because sometimes second chances are life’s greatest gifts. I understand that I am not perfect. But I try each day to be better. To be perfect for us.”
She said yes.
