How We Met

One of the first few days of my Freshman year in high school a boy walked in front of my Mom’s car and she said, “He’s cute, you should date him”…that was just the beginning. A week later the same boy was introduced in my friend group as Brandan. I remember the second I shook his hand I developed a massive crush on him! A few weeks passed and I had barely seen Brandan because we didn’t have any classes together and our school had 3,200 students. One day in my 7th period Biology class, Brandan walked in! He switched into my class AND my teacher sat him 2 seats away from me with one of my good friends between us. Over the next few months my crush grew deeper and apparently so did his because our mutual friend informed me that Brandan was going to ask me to be his girlfriend in December.

December came and went and he hadn’t asked me to be his girlfriend, so me being gutsy I texted him, “Are you going to ask me out of not?” and his response was, “No, I changed my mind. Sorry.” So clearly I thought that we be the end of our story, but not in the slightest! After months of me thinking Brandan absolutely hated me, on April 11, 2012 Brandan and I were in 7th period Biology, as usual. Brandan passed me a note during our lab saying it was about the English homework we had that night (we had the same teacher, different class periods). Because I was busy with my work I decided to read the note after class. Brandan had baseball practice right after class so he wasn’t there when I was opening the letter walking to the parent loop.

The letter read, “As you probably know I’ve liked you for a while now and the only reason I have not asked you out yes is because I wanted to make sure that it wasn’t lust and I really liked you for who you are as a matter of fact as I’ve gotten to know you I think you’re a wonderful person. You are so kind and funny and you know how to cheer me up when I’m feeling bad. Will you go out with me? Yes = smile, No = Backflip” My jaw was probably hanging open the entire time I read it and I screamed all the way to my car. He had FINALLY asked me to be his girlfriend!!!!! It’s been almost 5 years since then and I’m more in love with him now than I ever thought was possible. I feel so blessed to have found my person so early in life and to say that I’ve been dating my best friend since we were 15. I can’t wait for our future together!

How He Asked

5 years ago I entered my Freshman year of high school. December of that year I had gotten to know another Freshman named Brandan and I had heard he was going to ask me to be his girlfriend in December. December 2nd came around and I just felt that he was going to ask me that day…nope. He ended up asking me in April of that year. Fast forward almost 5 years and I still had the gut feeling that something important was going to happen on December 2nd. December 2, 2016, Brandan took me out to dinner at my favorite restaurant. He wore a tie I had gotten him 3 Christmas’ before that was made up of pictures of us through the years. That night was his first time to ever wear it (that he planned on purpose 3 years earlier).

After dinner he said we were going to look at Christmas lights and pulled up to an area that wasn’t lit up at all. He told me we had to walk to the lights, so we started walking through a park and all of a sudden we came upon a light up gazebo (my favorite thing!) As we got closer I noticed there were roses all on the floor of the gazebo and a table in the middle with items on it. I got up to the table and it was filled with pictures of us, letters we had written to each other over the years, a journal I used to keep about us, and a Bible. Brandan told me to turn to the highlighted verse in the Bible. The verse highlighted read, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24)

When I turned around Brandan was on one knee and told me, “You’re everything to me. You mean the absolute world to me. Will you marry me?” Happiest day of my life! Brandan later explained to me that he decided to propose on December 2nd because he had remembered that I always felt that something special was going to happen that day.

We’ve loved each other since we were 15, and I feel so blessed to have found my person so early in life. I can’t wait for our next milestone, getting MARRIED!!
