Jess and Jake

How We Met

I helped hire Jake at my work over 5 years ago. My first thought was how adorable this nerdy guy was and how well we could get along. We were both dating other people at that time so we just let our friendship blossom. Once both of our relationships ended he asked me out to the movies with some friends. I quickly figured out that there were no friends and he was just too nervous to ask me out alone! We went out to the movies once a week for the next 3 months until we “officially” became a couple. Right after we declared our relationship I got a promotion with our company in Illinois. After a lot of tears and talks we decided to try out long distance. I moved a month later and we did weekly skype dates, phone calls and he visited once. After 6 months he decided to move out with me so I flew back home for Christmas and we made the cross country trip from Idaho to Illinois together. Two months after that we got a job opportunity with our company in Arizona and left right away.

How He Asked

I had known a proposal was going to happen at some point. We were already sharing finances and a big purchase had been made and I wasn’t allowed to look. He told me it was a surprise and I would get it for Christmas. Fast forward 3 months to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert. I was so excited to go and couldn’t stop talking about it for weeks! He had been acting a little strange all evening. He is a quiet person in general but he was more than usual this night. He even bought a beer which was highly unusual at that time. We enjoyed the concert together and vowed to make it an annual thing. As we were walking to the car he was really quiet and had his hand glued to his pocket. At the time I didn’t really notice because I was so happy from the concert. I turned around to say something to him and he was down on one knee holding this gorgeous ring out. Before I could even think about what was happening he told me how much he loves me and wants to spend the rest of his life with me! I couldn’t even keep myself grounded I was so in shock. I had to keep grabbing at his hands to keep myself from falling over. I was so happy to be with my best friend and puppy daddy in that moment and of course I said yes!
