Jerica and Jacob
How We Met
Jacob and I went to the same schools growing up, but never officially met until Jacob was at his first year in college and I was about to graduate high school. I was throwing one of my friends a surprise birthday party at my parent’s lake house when Jacob and some of his friends decided to randomly show up. At first, I was not too happy about the situation since I had promised my parents the party would be a small gathering. I never imagined that the guy that “crashed my party” was going to be my future husband. Later that night, I had a brilliant idea to take kayaks out on the water. He was the only one that thought this was a good idea, so we were “forced” to go together. We spent about an hour out on Lake Conroe, just talking about life. He was funny, sweet, easy to talk too and had no “game” whatsoever. Little did he know, that kayak ride was when I started crushing on him.
A few months later, we officially went on our first date. It was a triple date with some mutual friends of ours that were already dating, so the pressure was on! He picked me up from my parent’s house, met my frightening father, ate at Cheddars Scratch Kitchen and then went to Top Golf in Spring. This is the night of our first kiss which still gives me butterflies when I think about it!
About three months into our relationship, Jacob took me on his annual family vacation to Garner State Park. We would be camping for eight days in a tent! I grew up camping, but never actually roughing it without AC in the middle of a Texas summer. This was what I considered the ultimate test in our relationship. Still to this day, that was probably one of the best vacations I ever went on. This was the trip that I realized that I was in love with him. Apparently, he was thinking the same thing. About a week after the trip, he told me that he loved me!
How He Asked
After about 3 ½ years of dating and one day before we both graduated college from Sam Houston State University, Jacob and I were taking our last round of graduation photos. One of the pictures involved me throwing glitter in the air. Our photographer had me turn away from him. She counted to three, and then I spun around while throwing glitter. This is when Jacob was down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of his life with him. Of course, I said YES!!! Moments later, Jacob had some of my closest family and friends run down to us. This was by far the best moment of my life.
I can truly say that Jacob is my best friend, my rock and the love of my life. I am so excited to see what God has in store for us and cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with this incredible man.
