Jennifer and Michael
A long time ago in a school far away I was first introduced to my future husband in grade 5. I had moved to a new school and was introduced to him through my new friends. We ended up not staying in the same group of friends but we had the same classes and eventually we went off to the same high school. We ended up back together as close friends in grade 11 after his best friend and my best friend at the time started dating and we all began hanging out together. We spent a summer just getting to know each other and making such a connection that our amazing friendship turned into an amazing romance that we kept up all the way until prom. We had a magical prom night just like you would see in the movies, and I just knew he was the one!
After prom we had another great summer together and then life caught up with us. Michael decided to go into the work force and I went off to college, but I made sure that didn’t come between what we had worked so hard to create. He was there for my college graduation and to support me through my first jobs. For the next 7 years we built our life together with many ups and of course some downs, but we were always there for each other.
One day I was given the opportunity to head out on one of my life goals to travel to New Zealand with my family. However, Michael was unable to go because of work but he supported my choice and encouraged me to go and enjoy it. I was worried that something would change because this was the longest we had ever been apart. Little did I know that there would indeed be a big change for us, but for the better. And that brings us to how he asked.
How he asked: After spending some time in New Zealand it was time to return home to my Michael! I was so happy and couldn’t wait to see him again. After a day long plane ride we finally made it to Toronto Pearson Airport. I knew he was coming to pick me up with my dad so we rushed and got our bags and headed out through the arrival doors. What waited for me took my breath away. Michael and my dad were there, but Michael was holding this big sign with my full name on it. I looked at my mom and grandma who were walking beside me and said “Look he’s being silly and has my name on a sign”. Then he dropped that sign and another one was behind it that said “Will you marry me?”
Well that I had not been expecting at all and I was pleasantly surprised! I looked again to my mom and grandma to see them crying with happy surprise as well and that was all it took. I ran down the arrival ramp and right into his arms! “Yes!” I cried, “Of course!” There was clapping and cheers from our other arrivals and our best friend Nathan who came with Michael to take video for us. It was one of the most magical moments of my life and I was so happy my family and best friend was there to see it!
It took us another 6 years but we finally tied the knot on Oct. 17, 2013 in Punta Cana with all the same people who saw our proposal and watched us grow over the 13 years. I couldn’t ask for a better husband and I can’t wait to see what adventures we have together next.
