Jen and Kaison
How We Met
Kaison and I met through mutual friends in 2012 while we were in school at West Virginia University, but it wasn’t until a year after we met he asked me on our first date. I remember I took about 3 hours to get ready because I was so nervous. When I pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant, he was already inside and had a table on the patio all set up. All my nerves subsided once we got to talking because conversation just came so easily. We sat on that patio for several hours getting to know one another! After a few more dates, we went hiking at Cooper’s Rock, a nearby state forest with a beautiful overlook of mountains and the Cheat River. Later that day, I told him I loved him for the first time, and he told me he loved me too. The rest is history.
How He Asked
About 6 weeks ago, Kaison and I bought our first house together! It was built in the 1970s and still had the original wallpaper, but we accepted the challenge of fixing it up and turning it into our home. We set a deadline for ourselves to have the major work complete by Friday, May 13th, the day I would graduate with my Masters degree from West Virginia University. We invited our close family and friends for a cook out and to see our new home for the first time. Once the party was underway, Kaison gathered everyone around for a toast. He started by thanking my dad for all his help over the past few weeks fixing up our house. Then, he told me how proud he was of my accomplishments. That’s when I noticed my niece had a little, square box in her pocket, and butterflies filled my stomach. She gave Kaison the little box, and he made his way toward me as tears instantly filled my eyes. He got down on one knee and said, “Jenny, will you marry me?” I was so surprised and overflowing with happiness, I don’t even know if I actually said, “yes!” After we had our moment and took pictures together in front of our new home, engagement ring front and center, we celebrated all night with our closest loved ones. It was the perfect ending to the most perfect day!
