Jasselle and Tony
How We Met
It all started, (WAY BACK in 2006), at the St. Augustine Catholic High School Homecoming dance. We were part of a huge group of friends in the same party bus, and we were both came with different dates. We made eye contact a couple of times, but it wasn’t until Tony came up to me and asked if I liked to dance, that we actually spoke. Of course I said yes, but was surprised at his interpretation of my answer when he began giving me a lap dance.
After the party bus ride was over and we arrived at the homecoming dance location, we parted ways and my mysterious “dance partner” simply disappeared.
Months pasted and we ended up running into each other at a mutual friend’s house. I played a little “hard to get”, and it worked because that night he asked one of our friends for my number and we’ve never stopped talking ever since.
How He Asked
After being together for just about 8 years, and considering that he had taken me to go “look at rings” a year prior, I had a feeling that this day was coming but I just didn’t know when, where, or how he could pull something like this off so perfectly.
It seemed like any other Friday morning where I was packing up my travel bag to head down to SD from OC for the weekend after work to coach my cheer team during their football game. Tony knew I was really excited for this particular game because I had just taught the team a new “How do you feel,” routine and they were going to be performing it that night in front of their entire school. It was also a CIF game, so it made this game even that more exciting. So I gathered my bags, gave Tony a kiss goodbye and he said, “Love you babe, and good luck tonight,” and just like that I was off.
The game flew by fast and as third quarter came, the girls were setting up to perform their new routine. I was getting anxious, and stepped back so that I could cued them in when it was the right time for them to start.
The girls began their performance, and I noticed something was a bit off during the middle of the routine as they started moving to the wrong formation. I freaked out a little because I didn’t know what was going on, but as soon as they rose up their signs that said, “Will You Marry Me,” I just knew this was all part of their plan…
After I realized that this was for me, I looked up into the stands in shock and all I saw was Tony running down the stairs as everyone is screaming with excitement. I didn’t know what to do, and I couldn’t even move until he came down and walked me to the center of the track. My heart dropped as he went down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
All I could say was, “Are you serious right now Tony?” And after he nodded, I of course said, “YES!”
His proposal to my could not have been any more perfect. Let’s just say Mater Dei wasn’t the only one who won at that Friday Night’s football game ;)
