Jarred and Michelle
How We Met
Jarred and I met when we were 16 years old and juniors in high school. We went to different schools, and met through mutual friends. I immediately had a crush on Jarred. We became really close friends, and then eventually he got the hint that I liked him. Jarred tore his ACL playing varsity lacrosse, and asked me to be his girlfriend the day after his knee surgery. We’ve been together ever since!
How He asked
Jarred and I are obsessed with traveling. We have been on countless trips together, and are always planning our next adventure. We had a 2 week vacation planned to Italy, Croatia, and Switzerland, and were counting down the days until we left! A few weeks before our trip, one of our friends not-so-slyly asked if we were going to get engaged anytime soon; which was a common question that we got asked since we’ve been together for over 8 years. Jarred totally blew it off and was talking about how he isn’t ready for that at all, and it will probably be a few more years until we got engaged. I was a little bummed out by his comment, because after all of this time together I was so ready! In the meantime, little did I know he already bought a ring and was planning to propose on our trip. The first stop on our vacation was Florence, Italy. We were in Florence for 5 days, and were having a great time. Jarred was acting totally normal. I had no idea he was hiding such a big secret!
On our first night in Venice, we went out to dinner at a gorgeous restaurant right on the Grand Canal. He told me it was a recommendation from one of our friends who recently went to Venice. After we finished dinner, we left the restaurant and were standing right in front of the gorgeous canal. I asked Jarred if he wanted to walk around and get some Gelato for dessert. He didn’t respond to me, froze for a second, and before I know it, he was down on one knee!
I was SO SHOCKED! It was a total adrenaline rush. Of course I said yes, and then I notice a photographer snapping picture of us, and a whole crowd of people watching. After the proposal, the restaurant gave us a bottle of champagne, and we went on a sunset gondola ride, and our wonderful photographer captured it all. The whole night was so magical!
After we got back from our trip, I knew I wanted to do something special for Jarred. He spent so much time planning everything out, hiring a photographer in Italy and picking out a gorgeous ring. I came up with the perfect surprise for him!
Since the day we moved in together 3 years ago, Jarred has been begging me to get puppy. He’s always wanted a pug named Duke. I’ve been against it, because we both work long hours and travel frequently. After we got back from our trip, I decided that getting Jarred a pug would be the best engagement gift I could ever give, and would be the only way for me to shock him like he shocked me. About two months later, I went through with my plan, and surprised Jarred with a 4 month old pug, Duke!
When I gave him the puppy, he literally thought I was playing some crazy trick on him. It took several hours and a lot of convincing for him to believe that this was real and the puppy was his! It’s safe to say that he was definitely surprised. Duke (and his ridiculously long tongue) is such a huge part of our family now!
