Jared and Megan
How We Met
We met in September 2015 in Morgantown, WV. After our first date, I figured we wouldn’t see each other again. He tried time and time again to get us out on another date until the last time when he didn’t give me a choice. He just said he was going to pick me up, he gave me a time and said that I better be ready! He picked me up that evening for the Preston County Buckwheat Festival and even though it was a boring old country fair with cows and stale cotton candy, that was the night that the stars aligned and we literally fell head over heels for one another.
How He Asked
On my birthday, we decided to take a weekend trip to Baltimore. It was a random decision, which is always the best! So, we were excited and automatically started searching for things to do and see. As Jared got the trip plans set up and we were packing to go, I made sure to sign us up for a historic ghost tour on Saturday evening. It sounded like a fun thing to do and could show us a lot that we wouldn’t see on a normal tourist day. Friday and Saturday afternoon were full of different adventures through places like the National Aquarium and watching roadside flamethrowers at the Inner Harbor. As the day rolled around, we got dressed for an early dinner to give us plenty of time to stroll over to the Ghost Tour. After dinner, Jared started rushing around finding other places he wanted to sight-see before our tour. I was getting nervous when I thought we weren’t going to have enough time to make it over there! He was dragging me into different stores and then decided to go see Federal Hill? Who needs to see a Hill when you already have plans??? I already paid for this tour!
Before I knew it, Jared was walking way too fast and was dragging me by the arm down the Inner Harbor. We were zig-zagging between tourists and suddenly he jumped down a row of benches that led to the front of the river’s boat docks. When he finally slowed down and I looked up, I saw a row of balloons sitting in front of a tree that spelled out “Marry Me”… at that point I was cracking up, figuring it was someone else’s proposal that we were going to laugh about.
Nope. That was about the time that he stopped in his footsteps and I immediately realized I was wrong. It was mine!! He slowly pulled me over to the balloons and got down on one knee…I was hysterically laughing and crying at the same time.
By this time, I was completely ignoring the ring because my friend and photographer Ashton had jumped out of the crowd with her husband and began taking pictures!
My head was full of thoughts, the first being, how on earth did Jared put all of this together when this trip was a random weekend excursion?? To this day, I still don’t understand! And no, we never made it to the historic ghost tour.Right after the proposal was over and Ashton had left, we headed straight for the ice cream shop on the Inner Harbor! We were both still elated, so ice cream is always the best celebratory option.
