Jacqui and Brandon
How We Met
Jacqui – I was new to Charlotte and just got a promotion and wound up meeting Brandon. He and I shared some small things in common (but mostly music, fast cars, pizza and playing pool). One day we decided to go play pool with a group of friends and one thing led to another and somehow it got turned into a first date!
Brandon- I was a broke student working a full-time minimum wage job just to get me through college and I definitely was not looking to date anyone at the time. I was then introduced to this girl with a tough exterior (only to later learn she has a soft and loving heart) who definitely did not look like my type, but to be honest, at that point in life I didn’t know what I was looking for. Whatever it was that I was looking for though, she had it.
How He Asked
Brandon – I have known I was going to propose since September 2016, it was just a matter of finding the right time. I wanted us to be in the right place and the first step was being together in our own place. So I bought the ring in March right around our anniversary and hid it in the tire well of our car. We found the place the next month. Our move in date was Jacqui’s birthday! So I decided to devise a plan and told her to send me her favorite pictures of us from over the years. She sent me 10 overall. On the back of each of those pictures (I printed them), I wrote my memory of each of those and what they meant to me. We moved in that week and decided to celebrate her birthday on that Saturday.
That day at home I found a box left from moving and pretended she had “forgotten” to unpack it. I called her to the living room and I’m pretty sure she wasn’t fooled by it because…birthday present. But on top was a card, which made her cry.
Then the pictures. I had to tell her to turn them over which reading them made her cry more. Which made me tear up too. She thought that was everything but I told her there was one more thing under the tissue and she rifled it around and saw the box open with the ring. I dropped to my knee and asked her to marry me. She fell on the floor with me and threw her arms around me and we both cried. I started laughing and asked her if that was a yes. I was not surprised at all when she said yes, but I was the happiest I have ever been. We get married October 28th, 2018 and I’m excited to spend the rest of my life with her.
