Jacquelyn and Colten
How We Met
I started a new position with the company I work for, which meant that I would transfer from the Brandon Center out to Tampa. That is where Colten and I meet for the first time. At first, we would have small talks in the break room. Eventually, that turned into a handful of 2 hour conversations standing in the hallway after work. I found Colten very interesting and I wanted to get to know him more. At this time, I did not have his number and I was set on letting him ask me for my number as opposed to asking for his. One Friday evening, he and I were having one of our lengthy conversations and I was convinced this would be the day I finally acquired his number. After agreeing that it was getting late and we should both be going, he stepped forward as if to give me a hug, but instead stretched his hand forward for a handshake. I remember being so furious that I would have to go another entire weekend without talking to him. Later that week, I gave in and offered my number to him. From there, we really hit it off. The more we learned about each other, the more we fell in love. Months after we started a relationship, we brought up the series of events that lead to our relationship. I mentioned the handshake and how unimpressed I was that evening. He told told me that was a test. He wanted to see if I was interested to not, so he intentionally went in for a hug and switched to a handshake to read my body language. Yes, he read right, I was interested.
How He Asked
Colten informed me that Saturday, December 12th, 2015 we were going on a date to Downtown Disney. I have lived in Florida for 21 years and I’ve never been to Disney World or even Downtown Disney, so I was overly excited for this trip. When we arrived, we walked around for a bit and I was taking in all the sights. It was beautiful. We came across a tree made entirely of lights and I wanted to get a picture of us in front of it. There were others there too getting pictures with family in front of this gorgeous tree as well. We saw a family of four, a mom, dad, and two little girls waiting to take a picture. When it came time for them, one little girl held the phone while her 3 family members posed for a picture. Colten quickly offered to take the picture for them so their whole family could be in it. Once finished he asked if they would mind taking a photo for us in front of the tree, and they agreed. I handed the mom my phone and while I turned to walk towards the tree Colten slipped his phone to the dad and whispered asking him to take a video. He walked over to me at the tree and held both of my hands tight, got down on one knee and asked for my hand in marriage. Of course, I said YES! Disney truly is a magical place!
Side Notes: I have to give addition props to Colten for the events leading up to the proposal. He made for sure my nails were done in time for the day he would ask. He asked my dad before he asked me. He contacted my best friends to inform them and ask if they knew of anything else I would want done on that special day. He helped me pick an outfit to wear that day. He made sure I had not only picture, but a video too. He made it perfect. :)
