Jaclyn and Gordon
How We Met
Gordon and I met at a line dancing country bar in Temecula, CA called Stampede in early 2015. I was there for my best friend’s 21st birthday and he was a Marine dragged to come out by his buddies. Both of my friends had never been there before so it was a new and exciting experience for them. I had been there a couple times before and explained to them that guys will just ask you dance for one song and then that’s it, super casual and no strings attached.
One of my friends dared me to ask this cutie in a plaid shirt (my fiancé) to dance with me, so I honestly thought nothing of it and happily did it. We danced the two-step and talked about where we were from, what I was studying, why he joined the Marines, the usual convo with a stranger haha. After that first dance, he somehow managed to find his way into our little group and was so interested in getting to know me more. Basically the whole night, we laughed and danced and the rest is history ;)
How He Asked
In September of 2016, Gordon had received news that he had to PCS to Okinawa, Japan for a year. We would have to do LONG DISTANCE for the first time ever. I was incredibly devastated by the news, but he was my rock and comforted me that whole night he broke the news to me. He had plans to make me his wife after and to start our lives together. As cliché as it sounds, he honestly made the distance so worth it in the end. Fast forward to November 2017, my babe was finally back in America!!! Life was good and I was enjoying spending time with him on the beach, eating chipotle, and laughing 24/7.
December 4th, 2017, he took me to San Clemente State beach and we watched the sunset together and it was just so gosh dang peaceful. My heart was happy just being with him. We started taking pictures and then he got down on one knee and poured his heart out, letting me know of all the reasons he loved me. I didn’t think I would cry on my wedding proposal day, but boy did he prove me wrong. Everything was becoming so surreal and I could see my future with him so clearly.
With tears in his eyes and tons of smooches, I undoubtedly said yes yes yes!! He’s my very best friend, and I thank God for bringing him into my life each day and the sacrifices and challenges we have both overcome to get to this special point.
