How We Met

We live in a very small town and even though Kevin is 5 years older than me it still blows my mind that we had never meet before June 1st, 2011. Let’s start from the beginning in April of 2011 I was just getting ready to graduate high school and go off to a college about two hours away in August. I wasn’t crazy about any type of relationship with me leaving for college in the fall but my older cousin had a different idea. He is one of Kevin’s good friends and gave him my number. I ignored Kevin from about Mid-April until…June 1st 2011,my hometown has an annual festival that everyone attends. Kevin and I meet officially for the first time. It was bit awkward and we only talked for about 5 minutes before both of us was swept away by our friends. We continued to text back and forth but never seen each other again until…August 6th. One of my good friends had a birthday party at the center in the middle of town well just so happens that the gym that Kevin goes to is right next to the center. Kevin and I had texted back and forth and I finally gave in and agreed to meet him at the parking lot that is near both buildings (the center and gym.) That time when we met something was different, don’t know if we was both just more comfortable or what but when I got out of the car I remember the butterflies in the pit of my stomach and when my eyes meet his I knew that I would marry him someday! From that day we seen each other every day before I left for college about a week or two later. On August 30th he asked me to be his girlfriend. The first year of our relationship was very difficult because I was off at college and Kevin was home attending the local college but we made it work. After the first year off at college I decided to come home and also attend the local college. Kevin and I have been threw a lot in the 6 years that we have been together but everything has made a stronger and better couple. He is my best friend and the person I know will always be there no matter what! Now fast forward a little over 6 years later!

Where to Propose in Our Home

How He Asked

A little bit of back story first! On January 15, 2017 we got our first home. We had a lot of work to do with our home but was just thankful that things was moving forward after nearly 5 years of being together. I had always told Kevin and truly anyone else that wanted to listen that I wasn’t moving in until we was engaged. We had almost had our home for a year just sitting there empty and I was not given in until there was a ring on my finger. The year was almost gone and we had officially been together 2,293 day when I become the future Mrs.

On December 9, 2017 it finally happened: We had been at the house putting the finishing touches on everything. I was in workout pants and a t-shirt and actually had flip-flops on, well wouldn’t you know it come the first snow storm of the season that day. We had gone back to Kevin’s moms house and he got me a sweatshirt and some socks and we decided to go get an ice cream and go look at Christmas lights. I received a throw blanket earlier that day that I was going to put on the back of the couch. After we finished our ice cream and looking at lights we stopped by the house so that I could put the throw blanket on the couch. Kevin didn’t act nervous or truly any different so I didn’t think anything about it. I was putting the throw on the back of the couch and didn’t think anything about what he was doing, well when I turned out there he was down on one knee with the ring box. I remember him asking “Will you marry me Heather?” All I was doing was sobbing crying, laughing, and asking repeatedly “Are you sure? Are you serious?” I grabbed the ring out of the box and put it on my finger and then I heard him clear his throat and he said “Well?” I had completely forgot to say YES, so I calmed myself down and screamed “OF COURSE!”

I had always had in my head that when he asks we will drive and tell all of our family but with the weather that was impossible so Thank the Lord for iPhones, we face timed all our friends and family except his mom and my mom and dad. I am so blessed and so thankful that it wasn’t videoed or photographed. It was just me and him the way that in my head it should be. In the place where we will start our lives as Mr. and Mrs. It was beyond perfect and more than I could ever ask for. I can’t wait to be his wife and spend the rest of our lives together!
