Hannah and Tyler
How We Met
Tyler and I met almost 9.5 years ago at Country Concert (July 2006) when we were both in High School. This was a 4-day event close to both of our hometowns. My best friend, Leah, had introduced us but it was really brief at this time. Later that night, Leah left to go get something, leaving me alone in a crowd of 10,000 people listening to Alan Jackson. As I was swaying to the music, I heard a bunch of guys behind me talking about how some older lady grabbed one of their butts. I turned my head to see what was going on, smiled, and laughed. A second later, Tyler smacked my butt and told me that he didn’t want me to feel left out. For a solid five minutes, I yelled at him and told him that was not a good first impression of someone. Minutes later, we talked and realized we were very similar to each other. We ended that night with our very first kiss while listening to Martina McBride as she sang “Independence Day” and I have been in love ever since.
How He Asked
Wednesday December 16, 2015: I am a graduate student and had just finished my finals for the semester. As a way to celebrate being halfway done with school, Tyler said we should go out to dinner to celebrate. He came downstairs in a button up and jeans, so I figured this would be casual. We went to dinner, and everything was great. After dinner, he asked if I wanted to walk around the Town Square to look at the Christmas lights. I agreed and we strolled throughout the streets and saw a swinging bench to sit on. We sat there for a while talking about life and the future. He began to say words that didn’t make sense and acted VERY odd. The next thing I knew, he was down on one knee asking me to marry him. I immediately began to cry and repeated, “no way, is this real, seriously”, and finally “YES!” After spending almost 9.5 years together, I always had that feeling of a possible proposal coming. However, Tyler kept this night so causal that it threw me off guard and I was completely surprised. I wouldn’t have had it any other way! A day later, I was on a plane with my fiance to New York City to celebrate!
