Hannah and Logan
How We Met
I first met Logan 9 years ago, when I was 14 years old. As funny as this is, it was Christmas time, and we were both on dates with other people. My date’s family and his family were great friends, and they were celebrating the holiday together. While sitting in a booth, across the table from him, I never had a single thought that God was using this date to lay out the plan for the rest of my life. Little did I know, God was using that Christmas, all of those people, that restaurant, those very moments, and that day to introduce me to the man I would spend the rest of my life loving. God used this day to introduce me to the kind of love that every girl dreams of since they were old enough to figure out that their heart would one day have a place for another man besides just daddy.
Logan and I both came from small towns. We’re both so simple. We love the little things in life – family, friends, morning coffee. A couple years after we met, Logan graduated high school and started his own beach chair rental company on the beautiful highway of 30A in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. My mom and I had planned a beach trip and I remembered seeing a photo of this super cute guy, who I remembered meeting forever ago, come across my newsfeed on Facebook. I reached out to a mutual friend of ours, told them I wanted to talk to him about a rental, and they had him reach out to me. I’ll never forget the first text message that I’ve ever gotten from him popping up on my phone… “So I hear you’re looking for some beach chairs!” The rest is history. He ended up not being able to service the place where we were going, and instead we talked the rest of the day, caught up, and he asked me out on our first date. Three days later, we went to the beach, laughed, talked, swam, he mesmerized me with his smile and southern charm, and we haven’t been apart since. We have dated long distance from Alabama to Florida for four years, and now we’re engaged. He is going be my husband. I’m still waiting for someone to wake me up from this dream.
How He Asked
It wasn’t long in to our relationship that we started talking about spending the rest of our lives together. We had both been in relationships that had shown us what we wanted and what we didn’t. We concentrated on having fun together and the laughter that we shared, and less on other people’s expectations or the timing. He loved me unconditionally, and I loved him for exactly who he was. We certainly had bumps in the road, but as we all know, bumps can be flattened and imperfections can be mended. I’m “that” OCD person, that planner type, who thinks that she always has it figured out. I just knew in my mind that I would somehow know when he would propose and that I would be a step ahead. Boy was I wrong. I reached to Emily, the photographer who did our Christmas photos, about taking my college graduation pictures. Of course Emily said yes, and we set a date. It was the funnest photo session. We met downtown, popped champagne for pictures, threw confetti, took pictures with my golden retriever Daisy, and photographed me with my kindergarten pictures to give as surprises to my parents. After the session downtown, we decided to go to my grandparents’ house for more casual pictures. Their house sits on one of those picturesque estates from an old southern magazine, with an oak tree lined driveway, a little white bridge that extends across their lake, and an old plantation style home. After we took a few more graduation photos, I wanted to do an outfit change. Of course I wanted Emily to snap some pictures of Logan and I while we were there. Little did I know, Logan had reached out to Emily the day before and the two of them had planned this huge surprise engagement during our photo session. Emily had Logan and I stand in the middle of the driveway and hold hands for a picture. She told me to face one direction and Logan to face the other. As I could hear Emily’s camera snapping pictures, I felt Logan’s hand gently let go of mine. I thought it was all a part of the picture, until Emily told me to look at Logan. When I turned around, he was down on one knee. My heart literally stopped. Every thought in my mind, besides what I was seeing in that moment, had left. This very moment in time was exactly what I had dreamed of since I was a little girl. God handcrafted this man, sent him just for me, and he was asking me to be his wife. There is no way to fully describe the feeling of how lucky, how excited, and how emotional I felt. God has blessed us. We are so thankful. I cannot wait for the day that I get to be his WIFE!
