Haley and Matthew
How We Met
Matthew and I met the summer before our junior year of high school while attending a small church camp at Tishomingo State Park in Mississippi. We had been going to the same little camp for years but never had the opportunity to meet each other. We went to different schools and churches, but two of our close friends began dating and happened to introduce us. While it wasn’t necessarily love at first sight, God was definitely at work. After six months of becoming best friends and going out on plenty of group dates, Matthew finally asked me out. Over the last three years of dating, God has continually loved and watched over us. Matthew enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps after our freshman year of college. It has been such a beautiful thing to watch him serve our country and do what God has called him to do. I can’t wait to pursue adventures and dreams with him for the rest of our lives!
How He Asked
In March of this year, Matthew enlisted in the U.S. Marines Corps. He left for basic training, and it was the toughest few months of our lives. We had been together for three years and knew marriage was in the future. He planned the whole proposal before he left for boot camp! In June, his family and I drove to Parris Island to watch him graduate. His mom told me before we left we were going to drive to Tybee Island in Georgia to take “family” pictures on the beach. Everyone even had matching outfits. There was also a lighthouse we wanted to explore. At sunset, Matthew asked me if I wanted to go for a walk on the beach. Of course, I didn’t think anything about it because we had just spent three months apart and had so much to catch up on! Everything was absolutely perfect. He popped the question once we lined up in front of the lighthouse, and I had no idea he had hired a professional photographer to take pictures of it all! It was the perfect day because I came home with my Marine and a ring!
