Haley and Matt

On October 16th, 2015, getting engaged was the last thing on my mind. Matt and I met in elementary but didn’t start “dating” until 8th grade. We decided on May 16th, 2009 we would call it “official” and be girlfriend/boyfriend. Matt was (and still is) very carefree, fun, and very musically inclined. We had a lot of the same interests and just clicked. As we grew up and went on to the next grade each year, we were becoming closer and closer. Finally as juniors in college, Matt finally popped the question I’ve been waiting for (what seems to be) my whole life. It started as a normal Friday. I didn’t have class, Matt was on fall break, so we were spending the day together. Matt’s parents were hosting a “Fall Festival” the next day and we had to go over there at some point to set up for the event. Both Matt and I had tests coming up the following Monday’s and Tuesday’s therefore we decided studying would be in our best interest before we left.

After the studying was over, we headed over to Matt’s parents to set up. After only spending about a half hour there I decided we should stop by my parents before we went back to study our brains out for the rest of the day. Well, Matt had other plans. He convinced me that because we both had big tests coming up that it was best we go to back home now, then tomorrow we can spend time with my parents. I, of course, was opposed to this but listened to what Matt wanted to do (considering he was the one driving). As we are driving back to study, Matt says to me “Hey you’re gonna be mad at me but I wanna go to this conservancy for a few minutes. It’s really nice and I want to show you it.” So I’m thinking, “Are ya kidding me?! He just said we couldn’t go to my parents but NOW we have to go to this conservancy? UGH!” So I shrugged it off and went with the flow. We pulled into the conservancy and it was gorgeous. It was full of tall grasses and a flatland of plants, trees, and more grass. I actually thought to myself for a second, “Wow! This would be such a pretty place for engagement pictures!” Weird how that worked out…. Next, I saw two planters with red mums in them on each side of this deck that out looked the beautiful grass flat land. I then thought to myself, “Wow, they really take care of this place, with it being fall and all.” Then, I stepped down onto this deck platform and looked to my left at the planters, they read, “marry me?”. I then looked to my right and Matt was on one knee. I couldn’t believe what was happening.

It was a dream come true. He asked me to marry him, and I think my first response was, “ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!” I was in shock! But of course, after 6 and 1/2 years of dating, I said yes. I am so thankful for such a perfect engagement and to be able to spend the rest of my life on earth with him. Later, I was informed that the “Fall Festival” was really an engagement party that Matt had invited my family to and his family as well. It was beautifully set up and such a success. Thank you to so many people for making this dream become a reality. Matt’s family, my family, and friends: we are so fortunate to have such supportive people in our lives are forever grateful for everything you all do for us. All in all, October 16th, 2015 will be an unforgettable day and I can’t wait for our wedding.

I think I was saying, "Are you kidding me?!?!"
