Grace and Tim
How We Met
Tim and I met through Facebook in 2012 because we had mutual friends. We chatted on and off for a few months before he finally asked me out for sushi. It was the best date I had ever been on. After that, we were almost inseparable. He would come over every night after work. And when I would go home from college in the summer, we would alternate weekends visiting one another, sometimes meeting halfway to go camping or to the movies. In 2013, after only a year and a half of dating, I was accepted to grad school in Ireland for 15 months, and we traveled there together.
Tim’s visiting visa kept us apart for 5 months in that time frame, but once we were back together, we knew this was meant to be forever. We moved to NYC and started our adult lives, both securing full time jobs and starting our family (with our kitten, Charlie, of course!). We got engaged on August 7th, 2016 in Rittenhouse square in Philadelphia. We are planning a fall wedding at my parents farm – a small gathering of our closest family and friends.
How He Asked
From what I’ve heard, Tim had a hard time finding the “perfect” way to propose. But it ended up more perfect that I could have ever imagined. First, I woke up to 4 dozen roses on Friday, one dozen for every year we’ve been together. That night we also went out to a restaurant we had been wanting to try. Saturday, since we are total foodies, we went to another restaurant in the city that we had been dying to try as well. The whole time I was waiting for something, but the proposal didn’t happen, so I just thought it wasn’t time. Then on Sunday, we went to Philadelphia to help our friends put things in their new apartment.
We were just tourists for the day. We visited the “LOVE” statue and settled on a park to rest before meeting friends for dinner. Tim found a bench, and our friend Stephen asked to take pictures of us. When Tim and I sat down on the bench, he turned to me and said, “So..” And started his speech about how he wanted to show me how much I meant to him all weekend by doing special things.
And after 4 years together, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I said YES, of course.
