Grace and Cory

How We Met

I had been dating off and on for the past few years after a 5 year relationship that ended. I had been on some dating sites for several years off and on and kind of dated a few guys but just for a few months at a time. I started to give up hope. I was out late one night hanging out with some friends on New Years Eve 2014/ New Years Day 2015 when I was traveling home and got a message off the Plenty of Fish site. Early that day I had decided that I was gonna just delete myself off all dating websites later that night and just give up on love. Well, I’m glad I didn’t. Cory messaged me New Years Day 2015 around 5am. I, of course, being polite, responded. We chatted back and forth for a couple of hours. I finally told him that I needed to get some sleep since it’s early in the morning and I had been awake for over 24 hours.  He said that he should probably get some sleep too. He had been out hanging out with his cousin.  So, I decided to give him my number and told him to message me when he woke up. I figured if he turned out crazy then I could just block him off my phone. Lol. He messaged me that afternoon and we never stopped texting and calling each other since then. That day he asked me to be his girlfriend and I agreed of course! We decided that we had so much in common that we should finally meet face to face. So, January 10, 2015 was the date when we first met. It was that night we met, after I had gotten off of work and he was picking me up and I was going down to meet his family. I live about an hour and half to 2 hours north of him. After that weekend, I knew that I would be with for the rest of my life. I moved in with him about a month later.

How He Asked

So, this past Christmas, which was 2015, Cory’s parents, uncle, his uncle’s girlfriend at the time, and I all decided that we would go down to Florida to Disney World to watch his younger sister and her college dance team perform at UDA Nationals in January 2016! We were all excited to go and started planning right away. Little did I know, that Cory had planned with his family to propose to me in Florida! We arrived in Florida on a Thursday late morning. We are all from southern Illinois and Missouri so we were excited to be away from the cold! While driving away from the airport, we all decided that since we were only there until Tuesday that we would go to Universal Studios now and on Monday. Saturday and Sunday we had reserved those 2 days to see his sister perform at UDA Nationals at ESPN World Wide of Sports Complex. Friday would be the only day we would get to spend any time with his sister, and her team had plans for family to meet up with the girls then at Epcot. Friday morning arrived and we started to worry because the rain was at a downpour. We didn’t know if we would get to spend time with his sister since they were only allowed a few hours to spend with family before they had to go back to practice all evening for competition the following day. It was already 10am and were still at the vacation home and she had to be back with her team at 2pm, so that only gave us 4 hours with her. Cory’s mom called her and asked her if they were gonna go to Epcot at all. She said yes, but they were waiting for the buses to run again. Everyone’s anxiety was starting to show and I was wondering if we were gonna get stuck indoors all day or not. We were staying outside of Orlando and there was construction everywhere so it took us about 45 minutes to an hour to get to Disney Parks. The rain finally let up some and his sister called saying they were on their way to Epcot. She was only about 10 minutes away from Epcot since she was staying at one of the Disney hotels. It was already 11:30am and we were on the road.  If the rain wasn’t the only thing to put a damper on our plans, I’d be lying. We arrived at the entrance to Disney World, and of course the GPS got us to the back entrance of Epcot to were all the workers park. The security guard told us it happens a lot. We were all frustrated because it was getting close 1pm which means we would only have an hour to spend with her. We finally get parked and we all race in there to meet his sister. By this time, we have 45 minutes to spend with her! UGH! She says, “Alright Fam, we have 45 minutes let’s go do something!” We decided to get on Spaceship Earth as a ride together as a family. After we get off the ride, we decide to head toward all the countries and go through them. Cory’s mom said let’s go find somewhere to get something to eat with her and sit. I’m like ok, but we don’t have much time. I’m getting frustrated because we are rushing and not getting to really enjoy this time with her. We decide to go to France to Eat since it was close to the entrance and I of course love France since I’ve been to Paris, France when I was in high school. We get to France, and we are rushing around looking for a restaurant. We passed one, and I’m like hey there’s one right there! His mom says, “It’s too expensive!” I mumble under my breath, “It’s expensive everywhere!” So, Cory takes my hand and we start walking toward the back of France. His dad is getting frustrated which I thought was because he was hungry, I’m getting frustrated because we only have about 15- 20 minutes left with his sister, and Cory seemed frustrated because he has high anxiety. We get back to the front of France and there is a section of flowers and the fountains. Cory proceeds to push right in front of the flowers and I’m looking to the right, and I turn back to the left and he’s down on one knee! It takes me a couple of seconds to realize what is going on and I look up and his family all have their phones out taking pictures and recording it. I immediately begin to cry and blurt out, “Are you freakin kidding me?!?!” Lol! I, of course said, “Yes!” Little did I know that he had this all planned out for months! That is why we had to meet his sister at Epcot because he wanted her to be there to share this special moment with her!special moment with her! Thank you to his family for being there to be part of this special moment in our lives and taking pictures!!! @teresa
