How We Met
We met very unexpectedly on May 5th, 2016. His roommate met my friend on Tinder and he invited her over for a boat night. His house is on a recreational lake and he and his roommate would take out their wake-boarding boat to go wake-surfing on the lake at night. My friend was invited and she asked me to come with her. I was really hesitant because it was 10:00 pm when she asked me and the lake was 35 minutes away. My friend and my mom told me to go though so I thought why not?! We walk into his house and our eyes met and it was an instant connection. He was so tall, handsome, and confident.
We had so much in common because we went to the same university, we were both biology majors looking for work in the health field, and both very athletic. After we got back from the boat we talked until 6 in the morning about everything and anything. There were no boundaries and it seemed that fate had brought us together.
I asked for his number that night (which he still says how much he loves that I asked) and we started texting and snap chatting each other non stop. He was genuine, yet mysterious in a way. I knew he was special. He finally asked me to come over for dinner and we watched a movie and had our first kiss. Ever since that night we couldn’t stay away from each other. Exactly one year later, May 5th, 2017 we graduated from college together! The next day we took off for our highly anticipated trip to Italy.
How He Asked
We were spending the day in Venice. We walked around the beautiful city of canals and had an amazing time. We were on top of the world and never wanted to leave. He told me we had to go back early to the hotel ,though because we had a reservation at a nice restaurant on the water and he wanted me to have plenty of time to get ready. He asked me to curl my hair (which I don’t like doing because it takes forever) because he loved it curled. I thought since we were going to a nice place that I should look nice too so I decided to curl my hair. He wanted to leave the hotel early to go see a specific bridge, called Ponte De Chiodo.
I had never heard of the bridge but I am always up for an adventure and seeing new things so I obliged. We took a water taxi to the other side of Venice and I noticed how he seemed anxious but was complimenting me a lot and being very sweet, which isn’t really unusual for him. I didn’t try to read too much into it. Eventually we get to the area of the bridge and I can tell he’s nervous but I didn’t know why! we’re walking up to the bridge and I’m expecting this magnificent and grand bridge because he was so persistent on going to see it.
I even asked him if that was the bridge! He said yes. I saw a tourist taking photos of the bridge and he said he wanted to go to the top so I said, “babe wait for her to finish taking pictures. It’s rude to walk in front of someone taking pictures”. He was persistent though! He told me it was fine to go on top and she could just wait until we left. We went onto the top and I turned around so we could take a selfie. As soon as I put my phone down he took my hands and said “I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now”. That’s when I knew what was happening.
I started crying as he was talking. (He had to write down what he said to me because I couldn’t remember any of it! I was so emotional).
When he was finished and he put the ring on my finger, he turned the other bridge where the tourist was standing and he said “that’s our photographer!”
I couldn’t believe it. It was so sweet of him to hire someone to take pictures of such a special moment in our lives. The photographer met with us and we had a photo shoot in Venice!
