Gina and Athan

How We Met: I met Athan the good old fashion way – Online Dating :-)  A week after I joined a dating site, I came across Athan’s profile and there was no looking back!  A few weeks later, after our first date, I deleted my online profile.  We have been together coming up on 5 years!

How He Asked: Athan’s birthday is the day after mine, so we always take a small trip together to celebrate.  This year we decided to go to Northern California (where he is from) so he can celebrate his 30th birthday with his family and friends.  Since I had only driven through San Francisco, I wanted to spend a day exploring the city a little more.  One thing I had always wanted to do was walk across the Golden Gate Bridge, and since he had never walked across the bridge before he was game to go.  It was a sunny day, windy of course, but beautiful non the less.  We took our time walking and when we got to the middle of the bridge we stopped to take pictures.  I turned to my right to get a picture, then behind me, and when I turned to my left Athan was on one knee holding the ring.  I immediately started laughing which quickly turned into crying.  Once I gained my composure, he was still on his knee smiling so I said, “are you going to ask me something?” He then said, ” What are you doing for the next 40 or 50 years?  I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind marrying me much?”  That was the line Rocky used to propose to Adrian in “Rocky II” (my absolute favorite movie!!)  I couldn’t have asked for a better way to be proposed to.  Surprisingly, there was no one around us on the bridge as he proposed.  It was like we were in our own little world, on a bridge, that we now like to call “ours.”
