Garrett and Amanda
How We Met
Garrett and I met in elementary school when he moved down to Georgia from Chicago. I cheered for his football team and we ran around in the same crowd all through the years. I always considered him a friend, but throughout high school we started to hang out more and flirt often. He treated me like a princess and still does to this day.
We dated for 2 years in high school and decided to maintain a long distance relationship as we went our separate ways to college. I went to GCSU in Milledgeville, GA and he went to Auburn, AL for engineering. I graduated this past December and he graduates December 2018. We have been together for 5 and a half years and he still gives me butterflies.
How He Asked
Garrett asked me to marry him in the most amazing way. He originally planned to ask me when we travel to Chicago for labor day weekend, but after 5 and half years of dating he was asked A LOT when he was going to pop the question. This past Thursday, June 22 2017, Garrett picked up the ring he had made from his grandmothers stone.
That day he surprised everyone and completely changed his plans, giving my friends and family one days notice. The very next day, June 23, 2017, when we finished the short, 1 mile hike all we could see was the most breathtaking view of the mountains and a blanket that had two wine glasses, a wine bottle, and a note.
He asked me if I wanted to sit and he poured me a glass of wine while I read the note that described our story and his feelings towards me. I struggled to read the note aloud, trying not to cry.
When I finished reading, he helped me up and got down on one knee on top of Preacher’s Rock and changed my life forever. He asked me to spend the rest of my life with him using the same diamond that his grandfather gave to his high school sweetheart… who we later found out, got married on that exact day 60 years ago.
He even had a high school friend of ours, who happens to be a professional photographer, hiked up the mountain before us and set things up.
She was hiding out and taking pictures of the whole thing! It was definitely a day I will remember for the rest of my life!!
